One of the things that now a days I have learnt from watching these real life event movies or hitory movies or movies alike is they sale pain, negativity, violence and hardships. and instead of enjoying the movie you come out of that Dark hall with heavy heart, a 5-10 mm of Hg increased Blood pressure, you go home and you feel low, you may shout on your child and will also get angry easily on your partner. and truly I have observed these kind of effects.
While talking about the movies. we want it to be more fun, enjoyable, lightening the mood. that is what I expect.
Now let us talk about the movie at stake. the plot of the movie revolves around the time of partition between INDIA and PAKISTAN. and it is centered on a Lady Called Begum Jaan who runs a brothel near to the towns from where exactly the line of control was planned to drawn.
In the process she was ordered by the authorities to empty the place and move somewhere else.
In the notion of having the power over all high ranked males as they all visit her place for pleasure she challenges the authorities and refuses to move and tries to test the contacts she has developed.
But as has always been the authorities apply the principle of hook or crook and finally make her to come to her knees.
But she decides to fight till her last breath for her place and in the end she takes the flame upon herself and the other girls.
To talk about the performances.
As always Vidya Balan nails it perfectly as an arrogant lady.
Gauhar Khan, Ila arun and other cast has also worked to their efficiency.
Nasiruddin Shah though has a small role to play but he was good at it.
The talks between Ashish Vidyarthi and Rajit Kapoor were a bit interesting presenting the then scenario of partition. the mindsets of the Hindus and the muslims. how they thought, how they reacted. what they had to go through.
Music.
The only song I liked was by Asha bhosle. Purana Jamana bhi Naya ho gaya. others didn't had nothing to offer.
Cinematography was good and was almost perfect to convince one to be in the era of partition.
But I would not reccomend this movie. as I came out of it tensed. and had many times desire to leave the room.
