I am Ex-Bechtel employee in Piping discipline. I am noticing that all people are making fun of bechtel like its not a good company, not a safe place to work. blaw blaw blaw. It's true but not fully acceptable.
Actually when boom came in 2006 bechtel got so many project and hired employees at very high rate. e.g the person who was getting 25000 after joining bechtel he was collecting more then 50k, and company never told them no we cant give you this much. And every one was enjoying and chilling.
I want to ask with the X-Bechtel employees or the people who are writing in this forum that if you get another chance to work with Bechtel would you go for it or not, I think the many of us will think over it. Becuase the relaxation, the party time and the increment which we got in Bechtel, the same we can not find out side.
Recession hit me also and I resigned forcefully in May 09, but it doesn't mean that they are wrong. Yes I know their policies are wrong their top management is wrong but what ever they has given is superior.
Now I am working with a korean company in same stream, I am feeling like I am studing in school because everytime our bosses are keeping on notice us. we can not go to pantry for t we can not sit on stairs for chant or for phone. What ever bechtel given is precious.
We can not forgot R.P Bindra, the genuin person I ever meet.
I know their policies are wrong, in the recession time they fired permanant people also which is againg the logic law. The persons on contract were continuing working because some are close to supervisor some one is boss's daughter, sister or relative or friend.
This is the main reason of the bechtel situation, it will take too much time to rebuild its stage. but no one can do anything because if they do not have work then why they put you engaged with them. In june 2008 the total number of manpower was 1200 and today in Jan 2010 its arround 300 and it can go down. Because some of the projects went on hold. Also the main reason is Bechtel's policy it quote at very high ammount so sometime it is not possible to get the work.
I am just trying to put the actual picture, I am not in favour or against Bechtel.
also I am not thinking to go back to Bechtel, coz ultimately it gave us pain.
