One unfortunate day I decided to take a leap into my career by joining Bechtel, since it was brand and had lots of project for which I was glad, than making money in LG, Samsung, SKEC, FLUOR, CH2M Hill, Bechrel, Technip, RELIANCE, Hatch etc.
Good things about Bechtel India:
They give good bucks if you are from their competitors.
They have good study material available online for knowledge expansion.
They provide Cab facility for commuting from NCR and late evening Taxi also.
Snacks for who stays back late beyond 7 pm.
Overtime beyond working hours, if budget allows.(Generally no power project has a budget)
Once a year Project gatherings/parties and Annual function.
They have good snacks, lunch and cafeteria facilites but be ready to pay every penny of it.
Bad things about them:
A lots of dirty politics at all levels, it is hell for someone who is good at heart.
Old employees/Bosses thinks it is their Dad's firm and ruthlessly behaves with their subordinates. I have seen this many times in Civil, Electrical, Piping, Instr.etc.
Politeness, Humbleness, patting, appreciation is no where in the dictionary of bechtel bosses.
Buttering, Polishing and good communication are the art required to enhance your career here.
Covenants hangs just with their badges and blame cultures continues.
No Flexi timings and whatever overtime you do, your boss will approve only half of it.
Clear gender bias, Ladies are given special preferences inspite of their continuous non-performance. If you are girl half the battle is won.
Some ppl are so ideal that they just play quiz, puzzles, games, mentoring, Rangoli and send mail others to join them, Managment think it is a creativity but it is bulls**t for people who work.
No growth prospect if you do not have FORE FATHER(Hand on your head).
A third class infrastructure except in their new building.
Beware of shrewed and crooked people at upper level they are still very harmful evenif you ignore them.
The recession has given Bechtel india a chance to sack anyone they dislike and do not butter them, inspite of their exceptional performance. Even 8 yrs, 7 yrs, 6.5yrs, 4.5yrs permanent employees were not spared, Even though they were given outstanding performance awards in their previous jobs. Contractuals are better atleast they made money over the years.
Bechtel should have had sacked - office services, IT, BMG, IS&T, BSAP etc who were just supporting group rather sacking people who generate money for the company. Even majority of all the non-performer upper staff should have been replaced.
In a nut shell it is a company where upper level lavishly enjoys, heftly paid and would kick hundreds engineers/designers without mercy, to save their one penny.
