Well I thought of sharing my experience of owning a pulsar from past  5 years. Better late than never, I thought of writing review on

mouthshut atleast now, It was in the year 2003 that I bought this mean machine, The punch line of the bike was quite bold & catchy in those days(definetly male).

It is definetly a male coz

its less expensive to maintain
Doest require any beauty treatment, looks good naturally
it Doest scream when u handle it roughly
You dont have to be afraid to take it to any corner on this planet.
:)

I didnt have a second thought when I went to get my 1st bike, as I didnt have much option to choose from. Till date I feel its one of the best decision that I have taken.
The Initial josh of getting a bike has a different feelng of its own, you tend to find a reason to go out and unleash your riding desires... My bike hit the service station for the 1st service well within a week (500 kms).
After that, very rarely have the tacho & spedo taken rest, I have been zippin it through the traffic and also on highways.
Following are the routes that i have covered on this bike

Mysore -> Bangalore -> Mysore  ( N number of times, to be precise almost every fortnight for 2 years in a row) Distance covered is 150Km non stop on 1 side. Avg speed 80kmph with top speed of 110 Kmph(with pillion ride)
Mysore -> Ooty -> Mysore, 5 times, distance covered is 300Km 2 and fro, of which 50Km is of ghat section with 18 hair pin bents (double ride)
Mysore -> Gopalswamy betta -> bandipur -> Mysore ( Distance covered 300 km with bumpy and pathetic roads)

Other than that, city driving condition is with usually high throttle & instant braking and revvving up the engine to the max RPM that each gear can take.

Following are my observation on this bike after 5 years of torture to it as mentioned above.
Pros:
Seating position,(with pulsar 180 handle)
Acceleration,
Mileage
Rear seat comfort ( for girls :) )
Looks
No major wear and tear.
Good chain drive ( Have not yet replaced my sprocket)
Feel of a super bike

Cons:
Suspension, replaced it twice, but til date I feel its quite bumpy.
Break sensitivity decreased within 2 years, not able to get the effectiveness of a new disc brake inspite of changing oil on time and replacing break pads
Had to replace clutch plates twice
petrol pipe gets hardened and needs to be replaced often
breaking at high speeds will make the bike wobble inspite of heavy weight
Mileage variations are too high with speeds exeeding 70kmph.

Inspite of small hitches here and there, its an awesome bike.
the vehicle built is very good and its very sturdy. I once had an accident where a bus suddenly took a reverse and banged directly to me, though the impact was directly on to the fork  nothing actually happened to the bike except for a bent handle and a broken right indicator, I only had to shed 150 rs to get it back in shape.
Am totally satisfied with the bike and have planned not to sell it even by chance. I get the feelin of the new bike even till this date which generally other bikes lose out within a year or 2.
I am not sure how sturdy the new pulsar’s are, though the smoothness of the ride has tremendously increased, I feel the new ones are quite delicate and the plastics on the bike have increased.
Overall Pulsar 150 & 180 stock bikes are one of the best bikes that hit the Indian roads and made a revolution in 2 wheeler segment. its a combination of power, reliability and mileage. even till date I race my bike in traffic with the new pulsar’s, CBZ’s and some not so impressive yamaha & suzuki bikes and I dont lag behind.

Cheers!!
Vikram

Mileage: Highway: 33 (double ride with speed > 80kmph)
48 (single ride with speend < 70 kmph)
City: It has been giving a consistant mileage of 42 to 48 ( never got anything more than that)
