Hi MS readers,

I had been using Bajaj Spirit for quite a long time(around 4 years). But I am not fully satisfied from this scooter.

Looks- the view from front seems good. But rear of the scooter is not much appreciable. I suppose that they could have covered the entire side of the vehicle, so that the suspension is not visible from outside.

The 70cc engine is enough for single person ride but it excerts much to pull with two persons. It actually scratches the ground while on speed breakers. The suspension is not smooth as in other scooters like Honda Activa. You will be thrown up if you don't slow down on bumps!! The engine makes screeching noise while shifting to second gear(its automatic!). The handle grip is also not upto mark. Acceleration is very poor. Seats are not comfortable-should be more wide. Rear break is effective, but not front.

Spirit was very troublesome to me after one year of purchase. Bajaj Sunny, which I first owned didn't give me a single trouble for 2 years. I had to run to service centers almost every week for one thing or the other(i don't know whether it is the fault of this single piece alone). The rear tyre was punctured atleast nine times. Why can't Bajaj provide with an puncture resistant tyre(Tvs scooty is fitted with one). Service centres are worst. Once, I gave for servicing and after running 2kms, noticed that petrol was flowing endlessly from the overflow pipe underneath. I approached the service center immediately. They replaced the carburator needle and assured that there will be no leaking. But after a week the same problem started. A local workshop man repaired it. Now it is alright. Bajaj service men (at this dealer) was not well trained for fixing such errors.

Now about mileage-Initially I got only 32-35kmpl but now I get a stable distance of 40kms for a litre(Many say they get 45-50kmpl). Petrol tank capacity is only 3.5l with 0.7l in reserve.

There is also shortage of a carriage box in the front. The space under the seat does not fit a helmet fully. Also the company didn't provide a spare tyre as a standard accessory. But, Bajaj Sunny(which costs much lesser) comes with a spare tyre.

Horn is pretty good.

Indicators are also very nice. It comes with a beep sound.

There is no fuel indicator.

Spirit is advicible only for ladies and people who handle it with atmost care(no rash driving!). It is good for short distance usage only. After driving for 20kms continuously some kind of burning smell comes.

For a smooth and long drives , go for Activa or Nova(they cost around 45000 INR).
