Seriously, Indian companies get away with too much. When it comes to automobiles and specifically 2 wheelers, the risk is significant. I am quite amazed and find it interesting that Bajaj fail to have a quality system that actually identifies defects in bikes or whether they allow this to slide through to maintain profits and keep their share holders happy.
I bought a Discover 100 cc in 2009 December. Within a week, my front tyre was flat. I thought it was a regular puncture but when I went to have it repaired I was told that the neck(where air is filled through) with the tube was weak and I could see a visible defect too. [I recall having the same problem with my earlier Platina bike]
About 8 months later the chain was loose. Constantly hitting the covering. I have had this problem continue ever since. The brake pads need constant change. I diligently have my bike serviced every 2500 kms and every single time the brakes need attention. The battery of the bike lasted exactly 2 years. The fuel indicator stopped working within 3 years. The mileage is an average 40 kmpl.
All of the above are clear quality issues and the bike is not cheap either. Nevertheless, with my interest to have it serviced and maintained I have kept it to date and managed with all these defects.
