I have BAJAJ Caliber for last 10 years which has run 67,000 Km till now and going strong.....

Though the bike in not in production. But the enjoyment I have been receiving for last so many years has obliged me to write about this legendary bike.

This bike was produced in year 1999 first. Before that happened,Bajaj was struggling to give formidable challenge to Hero Honda which was market leader in 4-Stroke bike segment.

Bajaj started with 4-s Champion model on the lines similar to the Splendour. But it could not make a niche for this model.Bajaj came into 4S segment with a force to be reckoned with when the Caliber was launched in year 1999.

It was a mean machine intended to attract the youth with its DIFFERENT look and higher Engine Displacement of 112 CCand 8 BHP.Top speed 95 Kmph.

The bike did not shake at speed more than 55KMPH unlike the splendour. Also the pillion riders had an equal amount of ride satisfaction because of higher level of it as compared to the main rider.Specially the ride was more exciting with a female counterpart. The bike gave by look a total Male appeal.

Earlier Hero Honda used to give Advertisement that Fill it Shut and Forget it.But Bajaj never mentioned in its ads about the mileage. The users themselves found a decent 60 Kmpl.It was quite inpressive an economical cconsidering the power it delivered and petrol @ Rs 15 per litre!! in 1999.

The bike delivered exceptionally well with a pilion rider.I rode it in the hilly roads of Nagaland to a place called Mokokchung for 3 hours continuously from Jorhat in Assam.I also travelled with this wonderful machine from Guwahati to Jorhat with one break.I even met with an accident. But nothing much happened to me- thanks to the Studs helmet and superior safety features of the machine.

Maintenance cost just includes preventive maintenance in terms of Engine Oil change.Oil Filter change and Chain tightening (every 500 Kms).I never had any issues neither some of my close friends who also had the same bike in different colours.

Bajaj stopped the production of the bike in 2006 to promote the DTSi technology in Discover and Pulsar models.
