Baazigar is one of the first collaborations between Bollywood's current number one duo SRK-Kajol. Although the famed chemistry between the stars was very much in the works, don't expect to be bowled over by their love story or their performances in Baazigar. Despite some foot-tapping Anu Malik music and a potentially gripping storyline, it turns into a disappointing thriller with a truly strange and unrealistic ending, utterly ruining the film.
First of all, kudos to Dalip Tahil. How many times can one play the same character in every movie and still manage to bring freshness to it? Tahil shines as the vindictive, vengeful company boss out to destroy SRK's family. SRK's character is ironically the weakest in the story, as even near the end of the movie, we are left wondering whether to like, hate, or fear him.
Shilpa Shetty, in her first role, is decent, but nothing special. Kajol is a big disappointment as is her love story with SRK. SRK looks absolutely disgusting in this movie (with such a big budget, couldn't they have spent a few rupees on makeup?), so the fact that Kajol falls in love with him at first sight is outrageous!
The music was amazing, with some of the lushest and touching ballads I have heard in a while (such as ''Chupana Bhi Nahin Aata'' and my favorite ''Ae Mere Humsafar'') and one unforgettable chartbuster, ''Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhen.''
All in all, Baazigar is mainly a timepass film for SRK and Kajol fans to admire how much these stars have progressed and improved from their early days.
