I have been using BSNL Mobile (prepaid) for nearly five years - and used it in two different states where I stayed during this period and barely faced any problem. Only once I faced problem was when on
roaming the home city was not getting connected - which was promptly rectified on visit to nearest BSNL exchange.

I would say there are many good services that are available that BSNL does not properly advertise.

One of this relates to phone backup - and this was a chance discovery by me.

I write this review relating to this service.

While deleting my SMSs (which clog my mobile), I chanced upon this SMS that said about phonebackup. I accessed the particular link on mobile - firstly to my utter dismay - it said that the particular backup service has been activated and Rs. 30 deducted. I was totally dismayed and confused. I thought it was some sort of money making trick of the company.

However, thereafter, I thought if Rs. 30 has been deducted, I should see what all this is all about.

I connected to internet and went to the site where the backup happened
http://pb.bsnl.onmobile.com/

And thereafter when I logged in, I was simply amazed at the clean interface and the variety of backup services that were on offer (including SMS backup). I was simply astonished and flabbergasted!

I dont know whether this is a sole BSNL venture or if this is with some other provider - but the variety of backup is simply amazing.

As a test measure I backed up the addressbook and again it was a very pleasant experience - and particularly the interface is very clean.

The details of the phone types and the kind of backup can be seen in the link below:

http://pb.bsnl.onmobile.com/bsnlweb/default/supported_phone.vhtml

I understand the service charges are Rs. 30 per month

If you have BSNL mobile and WAP / GPRS - then you have to access from your mobile to activate the service -

http://pb.bsnl.onmobile.com/bsnlwap/

then access the website on your computer and go to the site

http://pb.bsnl.onmobile.com/

and then login.

I understand this service can also be used effectively if one is changing mobile phones - then for example one need not punch in contacts again - instead use this service and one gets the address book with all contacts in the new mobile

The backup service can be used to backup 1) Contacts 2) Events 3) Tasks 4) Notes 5) Photos 6) Videos 7) Ringtones 8) SMS

Update: One can also download the backup from the backup site to ones computer
