Pros:
hi-tech, songs, dialogues, youthful, fun and richness
Cons:
too many sub(non-original)plots, too much of everything

why is that, there is a huge cry against this movie?, It is hi-tech actually & musically, (far from any Indian movie), lavishly made, young & youthful and neat characterization & presentation, and it has
been made from best-of-all from Tamil industry, may be that’s why nobody wanted it to be a success, so that there wont be any repetition of such movies atleast in terms of ‘behind-the-scene-expertise’. When there is a huge hype from the movie, obviously there are lotsa expectations from the director and the producer, but it has to be mentioned that it has lived up to it, to a greater extent. Thums up!

In this world of communication if anyone is looking for some message from a movie, there are primitive and sadly mistaken. Grow up. Movies are made not for messages. Its for non-messages too. Boys tops the list in this category, of course its only for Boys!

Lets jump into the plot, since its already month old, a lil can be revealed. OK, even overlooking the prostitute scene, the great mistake in handling the scene is that it happens in munna’s house. This is lil uneasy to accept, especially depicting a ’’relatives’’ kinda atmosphere, where apartment guys would find it hard to digest. Next time anybody comes with a kid, please dont perceive it otherway. Most of such tricks are let out of the bag, guess next time if a guy tries to get a one-year old baby from a mother, donno what would happen next...Guys have to invent new tricks,, hmm hard task for youngster now. If ’’Boys’’ is targeted for boys its mainly the first half. Clever handling of OTMP, which goes very well with youngster, and also it escapes the censor. With double-triple kinda ’’dialogues and scenes’’ if not presented in boys movie where else it could be shown. Come,on. Almost all the boys including in the city talk like this nowadays, though not in front of parents. Not to mention the girls also. The problem lies with guys who hangover those scenes in their mind instead of leaving it at the theatre-door step.

We all accept an English movie to go overboard no matter how degrading and disgusting it is, but when the same case comes to regional language, we say no no. I dont see why no. It a big world out there, and double meaning, scenes, vulgar, etc, are all out there and its up to us to decide what to take and what-not. ’’Information is wealth’’,’’Lateral Thinking’’ oh come on, they are also presented with huge explanation in the same movie, wonder if anyone ’’carrying’’ over so-called-hot-scenes are anywhere thinking abt close to it, leave alone if they got the meaning.

Thats for an argument sake. Coming to the other side of it, though will all these risk-taking efforts does Shankar succeed in delivering whatever he intended to? Answer is hell no. The story is old, revised version of Thulluvatho ellamai, and also Puthu vasantham.
Cant blame the timing. But somehow it bares all, and its shows. By the time we get ’’Please Sir’’ song, we wonder what did we come across, mix of all kinds of subplots one would see in teen-movie. Nobody could tell where is it heading for too. May be its a collection of teen movie plots, so that no one dare make another teen movie till next decade. Jail subplot is a direct lift from phoren movie, also the death of one of the boys makes no purpose. It clearly shows the confusion of director; he didnt have any other strong reason , except that finally he has to have a punch for the climax and thats the death of kumar. For kumar, how lucky to get a shankar movie and how unlucky to be thrown out of the climax. Why that guy and why not Bob, instead?

About performance, well, no over-boarding and no under play, jus right on line as one would wish for. Bravo. No mushy mushy dialogues. Cut and straight. No dragging scenes. Vivek, after supporting the single heros for many times and being an undisputable part of their success, here he gels quite with 5 or 6 youngsters too. Neat comedian in Tamil industry. But yet at the same time one has to admit Harini didnt fit the climax song to the T. She is too cute to give out the force and punch in the final song.

Each and every department has shown their excellence. Music, reading the review details below. Nothing more requied. Though the song with ’’wastages’’ is quite a waste, sometimes you wonder how shankar spoils the charm by going over board including the technology over-used in ’ole ole’’ song. Technology is indeed amazing, but usage at the right moment and at the right degree would always be every effective. A mesmerizing technique used for Sachin sponsored by Addidas, is used for running around trees here. How long are we going to run around like this? Only heros and heroines are changing, but all remain the same; if all the heroes and heroines are done with that including next generation, what is in store for the genuine audience. Question would always remain unanswered. Shall we move ahead and play down the duet and dancing around trees, lil bit?

With all the effort and technology got into this, and of course that the outcome is not as bad as trash, its way ahead different from the usual run-of-the-mill-friendship movies.

Some see BOYS just to know how fun it is; and some see it to know how bad it is. Verdict it that nobody could ignore it. Some enjoy within four-walls and crib outside, but then Indian audience, especially Chennai guys, its time to come out of the closet, its long time staying over there and preserving nothing, may be thats what shankar wanted to say.

We can give a 4 star.
