In a recent Outlooksurvey of top 100 engineering colleges in India, BITS was ranked 6th after IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi...... ahead of IIT Roorkee & IIT Gawhati which are fairly new entrants among IIT fold and also ITBHU which is a part of IIT-JEE culture.

Although these rankings may keep changing (moving few spots up or down) and it may be disputed, it is a quite a significant fact that BITS has come to occupy this position among the top ten in the recent times and as far as the recent memory goes and that too being the only private college among the top ten. That speaks volume about the college .....!

I have never seen it occupying such an elevated position in recent times or as far as my memory goes. I considered it a good college, but not such an equivalent to IIT. I did my B. Tech (Chem Engg) from ITBHU and when I had to choose which engineering college to go during my school days, I had three (3) choices IIT, IIS (Bangalore) and BITS and my close friends also thought the same during that time (that is nearly 35 years ago).

Interestingly, after I got selected in IIT with an all India rank of 1206, when I chose ITBHU - Varanasi ...... in my innocence or lack of proper information (b'coz I thought itbhu was also going to be converted to IIT) and as I was getting metallurgy / civil / architecture at other IITs and I wanted CHEMICAL, some of my friends (the one who went to BITS) remarked why I was choosing ITBHU and not BITS as he thought BITS was better than ITBHU and may be he was correct in some ways as I struggled with my degree from ITBHU and he had a smooth and easy sailing and career ride or passage and I had to prove myself and was tested over and over again at the time of BHU days and even now; And I feel being tested is part of the Life Process when one of my doctor friend remarked that - Can u keep on saying - I am from AIIMS or IIT without continuously performing and proving yourself

Looking back, I feel it would have been better of ..... if I had taken metallurgy or civil at any of the IITs Kgp or Knp or B'bay..... but all said and done, I must have no reasons to feel put off .... as it has provided a good circumstances and breeding or working ground for taking the challenges head on with me getting some other advantages of inner transformation which may or may not have been possible at  IITs and glimpses of something higher ....

Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore is surprisingly missing, but they may not have furnished the data, otherwise IIS is also considered a good tech college.

Pilani is a remote town / semi - city, little more than a village, parent town of the House of Birlas. The Institute is also founded by them. The Institute occupies good reputation in Industry and trade and its graduates occupy good positions in their life. As I said earlier, one of my school friend is also from BITS (electronics) and he is doing quite well as an engineer. One of our professor in chemical engg (Chem Reaction Engg.) came from BITS and he was a good teacher and I liked him. This is the closest as far as personal experience goes.

All school leaving students aspiring for engineering career are welcome to go to BITS. Its quiet and calm locale is ideal for taking up serious studies.

BITS enjoys good exchanges with Industry and it has been placed among the top in Industry Interface (II). It is also among the top in Pedagogic Systems (PS) or Educational System or set up.
