I have not been a great fan of Indian soaps - to be honest the entire saas-bahu saga. garish saris, make-up over-kill regrdaless of the time of the day just couldnt sink in. And how every soap villain (usually the bahu or the saas) has connections to some mafia is another mystery. From this clutter of high TRP nonsense, Astitva stands out and we are grateful someone's realised that viewers actually do want to watch quality TV and not another drama which looks like a rerun of the previous.

Astitva is about a strong-willed doctor (Simran Saxena) and her journey through life's various turmoils beginning with the loss of her beloved after which she dedicates her life to setting up a clinic - Astha. Finally finding her bearings in life, she believes she is exactly where she wants to be when Abhimanyu enters the scene and sweeps her off her feet. Against the will of both families, the 2 get married and things are hunky-dory till the age difference (abhi is almost 10 yrs younger than Simran) rocks the boat. Abhi has an affair with his assistant, heart-broken Simran, now with a baby girl, breaks it off and is back to concentrating on her work.

The long lost love re-enters the scene and forces Smran to review her life and life she wants for her daughter. In the midst of all the drama in Simran's life, she is also actively involved in social work and a highly revered gynaecologist who has managed to keep her nose above the water. Right from the time it started, Astitiva has provided its viewers quality entertainment and a real-to-life drama to which eveyone can relate to.

From the dialogues, to the sets to acting - everything is perfect to the tee. Simran is not shown as super-woman (like kksum or tulsi for instance) instead a person with a lot of determination but also the sensitivity of a woman and fallibilty of a human being. I highly recommend this soap to everyone.
