167;§§§ The Indomitable Asterix Comix §§§§§§§§§§§§§&#
167;§§

Yes.The sky is going to fall on us once again today. Better watch out for Asteroid (Asterix) & Comet (Obelix) in the sky. Today is the day, the thirty third Asterix comix is being launched by our inimitable Albert Uderzo in Brussels with great fanfare and across 27 countries, the new “ASTERIX, the falling sky”.

Asterix is undoubtedly the comix of the Century without argument, a comix series for every age and also a treasure of knowledge for Children in the form of History, Geography and Evolution, in a very subtle but most beautiful manner. One great thing about Astreix is that it induces children to read more serious stuff like History,Geography,Science and Language.

I can still remember two rival groups in the School , Asterix and Tintin and I was the brainchild in advocating Asterix in my School at the age of 9. I have bought the comix countless times and lost them so many times (as they were most sought after) and today I am left with 16 of them, which are a treasure for my life.

About the Asterix series

Rene Goscinny: If readers remember, Goscinny was a scenario writer for Lucky Luke and went on to form Comic Magazine Pilote in 1959 with Uderzo and Jean Charlier. I would rate him as the greatest humour writer for comix and had so much depth of knowledge which is unmatched till this date. After his death in 1977, many feel that Asterix is not the same without the golden writing of Goscinny, Yet Uderzo keeps using his name in Front page as a tribute to this great writer.

Albert Uderzo:An Engineer who became an Illustrator is bestowed with golden arm and a very innovative mind which has given us the Great Asterix, Obelix and so many sketches with intricate details and volumes of information. The Caricature of Uderzo remains till date the most unique of what we have seen. No doubt he was born with 6 fingers in each hand and not with a Golden spoon, nevertheless a golden hand.

There have been 100 plus translations of this beautiful series including two Indian languages, but thanks to Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge that we were able to enjoy the sweet Asterix enumerable times in English.

What is Asterix all about?!

It is

A co(mplete) mix of wonderful Words

A co(mplete) mix of beautiful Caricature

A co(mplete) mix of inquisitive information

A co(mplete) mix of frolicking fun

A co(mplete) mix of worldly wonders . . . . . .

Simply said,

The x factor in Asterix is an Xplod of Laughter, language and learning.

Caricaturix

Asterix: The intelligent Gaul among Crazy indomitable ones by toutatis.

Obelix: There is something oblique about menhirs, but not Boars and Romans, I simply love this guy.

Vitalstatistix: There is no vital statistic about the chief of the village (This you understand every time he falls from the Chieftain’s shield), but he thinks he is vital. (Asterix and Ceasar’s gift)

Unhygienix: His poisson is very unhygienic. It always results in a fight.

Cacofonix: The Bard creates cacophony of sorts around everyone who goes near.

Dogmatix: The doggie is never dogmatic.

Fulliautamatix: His tool making was not fully automatic then.

Getafix: The fixit Druid of Magic Potion and other recipes is always wanted by Romans.

Here are some for die hard Asterix fans . . . . . .

§§§§ Asterix the Gladiator §§§§

A great comix in which Cacofonix the Bard is kidnapped to be thrown to lions in the great Circus maximus, but Asterix and Obelix keep you in tenterhooks with very funny games instead and drive Ceaser crazy. We see the pirates, distant cousins of the famous Barbe Rouge for the first time,

Fun: Great Circus scenes, the galley slaves refusing to fight as per contract, Obelix collecting Helmets after bashing Romans, The Gauls calling Caesar “Hi Julius”

Undercurrent: Noise bickering from in fights in High-rise Buildings. The Circus scenes and slavery

§§§§ Asterix the Legionary §§§§

Asterix and Obelix join the roman army to rescue Tragicomix, Panacea’s lover and gain him as a reward for the Victory over Sepio from Ceasar.

Fun: Rip roaring comedy of legions training along with Asterix and Obelix, Interpreter’s translations גּדּתּﭒףּӨҸφϊξ and the lingua-fun resulting from the training of legions, Obelix falling in love with Panacea, H2SO4.

Undercurrent: Military bureaucracy, You see an allusion of Tintin by seeing Gastronomix in pg 21 and Jean Marais, a French actor in Tragicomix. Ptenisnet the legionary under training mistakes Ceasar as a Holiday camp redcoat.

§§§§ Asterix in Britain §§§§

Asterix with Obelix go to Britain with his cousin Anticlimax and the Barrel of magic potion to defeat the Romans. The result is simply hilarious stuff.

Fun; the rugby game with the power of magic potion, the voyage of the Barrel.

Undercurrent; Asterix ends up making tea for the British Village when the barrel is lost in the river & they end up defeating the Romans, Asterix pealing potatoes which were not there then, darts game, Beatles band, French perception of the British, Obelix introducing rugby in France.

There are many more fun filled adventurous voyages of Asterix reaching every corner of Europe and beyond, namely France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Britain, Corsica, Egypt & Jerusulam encompassing the history and lifestyle of these regions just before birth of Christ.

Each voyage is a special journey with so many hilarious events to cherish.

Readers, Quickly Grab hold of the new Asterix comix if you want the sky not to fall on you, and one thing is sure that you will fall all over the place bursting in laughter once you read it.

Wait!! Let me tie the Bard Cacofonix behind the tree so that I can save myself from NU rating

Asterix anecdotes are welcome from readers. Special thanks to asterix-obelix.nl for indefatigable analysis on Asterix comix.
