“Blow yourself, very high with Obelix…”
After my review on Tintin, couldn’t stop myself from writing about my second favourite cartoon book, Its Gaul village and its funny characters of Asterix & his friends who are a fear for the Roman Empire.
Without wasting much time, let me get into the characters of this amazing gaul village.
About the creator…
Albert Udzo was born on April 25, 1927 and since his early childhood, he had the keen desire to write cartoon strips and had even written stories for the Disney in as early as when he was 7years old. Though he took some time to get the character Asterix to the world. In 1959, Uderzo and Goscinny created Asterix for the first issue of Pilote.In the first sketch, Asterix is a valiant warrior with a strong body but is suddenly transformed into a sort of shrimpy complainer and joker. Though in early 1977, Goscinny died, Uderzo continued his work and gave more wonderful books with more and more exciting adventures of this Gaulish Village.
Getting into the skin of the character…
Before going to the skin of the characters let me give you some background of this entire Asterix and his adventures.
Gaul is the village were Asterix and his friends live. This is the only village which, has not been captured by the mighty Romans because they were time and again defeated by this small village.
Magic Potion which is made by Getafix who is a village druid and the man behind Asterix rising strengths.
Okay now some of the main characters of Asterix.
ASTERIX
Asterix is definitely the main hero of this book and inspite of being small and shrimpy, the Gaul village knows that he is the one who can help fighting these mighty and cunning Romans. When he has the magic potion and along with his great mind behind he is more dangerous than anyone and cleans the Roman soldiers like a bowling hits the pin. He and his giant friend Obelix are the terror for the mighty Romans. He wears a helmet which has got 2 feathers, blond hair and blond moustache and looks like the WWF player Hulk Hogan(JUST THE FACE, In fact the face of most of the Gaul’s resemble Hulk Hogan) because as I said earlier he is small and shrimpy.
OBELIX
My most favourite character on Asterix. This gentle giant loves only 2 things, 1 is the wild boar and the second is bashing up Romans. He doesn’t need a magic potion because when he was a kid, he had fallen in the magic potion bowl and has got real super strength. Obelix is a menhir carver and deliveryman: in Obelix and Co., he sets up a huge quarry and gets rich. He loves giving his friends menhirs, but they don’t know what to do with them. He always wanted to drink the magic potion but Getafix had warned him not to drink because he may get side effects. Obelix is a big, fat man with a moustache, and red braids with pretty bows at their ends. Always wearing breeches with vertical blue and white stripes, he never wears a shirt.
DOGMATIX
Obelix’s most favoured companion who is there with him always who according to Asterix and Obelix is sly and always happy.
Getafix
The main man behind the Gaul’s and Asterix Strength. This druid makes the amazing magic portion, which gives them extraordinary strength to thrash these Romans. He is the only guardian to the secret portion and with long white smooth beard and spotless red cape is the most important character of Asterix.
Cacofonix
He is the irritating village bard who say’s can bring rain by his music but is always de-barred from village function tied with his mouth being shut.
