Once upon a time, there was an advertisement which changed the fortunes of a brand called Binny's potato chips with a campaign ''Humko Binny's Mangta'' and the punchline stuck around for a while and the advertisement did wonders to the Brands. Now this advertisement of Asian Paints ''Wah Sunil Babu!!'' has done similar things to the way people communicate with each other... I have personally come across a lot of people who ise it in their day to day conversation right from when they are greeting a newly wedded friend or a proud owner of a new car or a house, in short the ad. has made a connect with the masses with the catchy line ''Wah Sunil Babu''.


The advertisement does complete justice to the brand Asian Paints ''Exterior Emulsion''. The exterior Paints are exposed to harsh weather conditions of our country where there are extreme conditions across length and breath of the country. The advertisement is trying to put forth the basic proposition of ''Times Proof Beauty'' through portraying various changes happening in the life on One Sunil Babu. The story starts from the younger days of Sunil Babu when he purchases a new house, new car and gets himself a new wife. Now the story develops wherein everything changes from receding hairline of Sunil Babu to his expanding wife and deteriorating car, but there is only one constant the exteriors of his house which withstands the punishment of time and extreme conditions to look brand new.


The subtle use of humour actually reinforces the benefits of the brand and that the punchline has found its way into the hearts of common man will ensure that the brand will remain in the mind of people even after it has been taken off air. I was just browsing through where someone just slammed the advertisement for interrupting the viewing pleasure of a cricket match. This yardstick will hold true for all forms of commercial announcements and getting irritated just does not work as, If there are no ads. there are no live matches to be seen as all forms of mass media today are surviving on advertising. You shut out the advertising one would not be able to afford one single pay channel leave alone a bouquet of 100 channels for Rs. 300/-. So, advertising is necessary evil we will have to live with and till the time the advertisement entertains me along with selling a brand, we can only say ''Badia Hai''
