Our family traveled to Artemis hospital from overseas to be with a loved one and were shocked by the experience we had. The doctors at Artemis hospital were professional and helpful and the hospital was nice and clean. However, their administration is severely lacking and the other staff, including nurses, did not communicate well with patients and their families. The hospital administration needs to review how they treat families during this time of grief and loss and ensure that they are given the appropriate privacy.

My brother was recently a patient within the oncology department at Artemis hospital. When we first arrived at the hospital the oncology specialist advised us that my brother needed to be admitted immediately and gave us an admittance slip. We then needed to go to the separate admissions office who then told us that there were no beds available. All the while my brother was growing more and more dehydrated and urgently needed an IV. We were then directed to the emergency department where they refused to do anything until we had purchased all the medications and equipment. This took nearly an hour in which time he was not given a bed. Their pharmacy was also poorly stocked and often didn't have the medications which the doctor had prescribed to us. This just demonstrates the lack of communication within the hospital. Doctors didn't even have computers at their desks and there was no way to make an appointment. Instead it was a free for all as to who got to the doctor's office first. Additionally, within the oncology department, there were three specialist oncologists which all shared one office and so there was no confidentiality between doctor and patient.

My brother's last days were some of the worst. They kept pumping him unnecessarily with a nebuliser and giving him unnecessary medications in order to make more money. After he had passed away they didn't immediately turn off the machines instead they began cleaning out the room and emptying draws, there was no privacy and no time to say goodbye. There was no respect given to the life which had been lost.
