AROMAS OF CHINA RESTAURANT - BANGALORE Review

There is something queer about names of restaurants. They, as a rule, almost never reflect what you are going to get inside.

For example, you might pay a visit to ’’The Only Place’’,

and then realize grudgingly, that it definitely has NOTHING unique to offer. Or you go to a ’’Shanthi Sagar’’ ( Sea of Peace ), and the thing that strikes you most is the clattering of utensils as waiters clear up the table, or the shouting of orders across the room.

On the other hand, Aromas of China definitely lives up to its name. As you walk past it ( I take a ciruitous route back home every evening just for this ), delightful aromas waft in to you and draws you irresistibly towards the entrance. Before entering the restaurant, I would suggest you sneak a walk towards the side, where the kitchen is located, and you are guaranteed to go ... wow !

Located at Richmond circle, this jewel of a restaurant popped up somewhere around October 2002, when the only good Chinese food you got in Bangalore were at Mainland China or Chung Wah’s.

Tastefully decorated ( I like expecially the abundance of mirrors - helps me cast lecherous glances all over the room all the time ),this place boasts of very prompt and courteous service, a reasonably varied food menu, some unique cocktails ( Dai Quiri - try that one. I adore it ! ).

A minor irritation in the initial days, was the constant chinese music playing ( somehow all chinese music sounds the same .. no offence meant to my mandarin friends ), but now they have replaced it with normal stuff.

If you are a vegetarian, you might not be pleased with your limited options, but otherwise the menu at offer promises to make your tastebuds tingle with delight.

I have tried almost half the dishes available, and each one is as good as the other, and refreshingly different.

On weekends, if you dont book in advance, plan to wait for fifteen minutes approximately.

And yes, pretty young things as maitre d’s ( I have got the gender wrong .. huh ? )
For starters try the prawn dimsums, the main course you could go for anything listed.

The desserts menu does not have too much variety, but the all time favourite toffee walnut is a surefire way to wrap up a great evening.

A very well balanced meal for two with cocktails thrown in would set you back by approximately 800 rupees.
