Story:

Hi mouthshut people out there,

Today I want to discuss about one of the fresh water aquarium fishes known as Discus. The scientific name of this fish is Symphysodon. The Discus fish is a genus of cichlids. They are mainly found in the Amazon river basin. This days in India people are breeding this fishes as they are one of the expensive fishes & available in different colors. The pH level that require to breed this fishes is 6 to 6.5. They are very beautiful and calm. They sometimes referred to as Pompadour fish.

There are no real sexual dimorphism for this fish. Mostly the color of the females are much more darker than the males. The fish may grow up to 6 inches. The color of the fish looks more bright full and beautiful in a planted tank.

The different breed and colors of discus fishes are Red Melon, Blue Diamond, Ocean Green, Brown, Panda, Bulldog, Red Leopard Skin, Blue Leopard Skin, White Pegion Blood, Snow White, Golden Yellow, Calico, Ghost, Turquoise, Red Snake Skin, Blue Snake Skin, Red Spotted Golden, Cobalt, Thin Line & Thick Line.

If some one is buying Discus fishes he or she should keep in mind that they are very delicate fish. They are friendly with almost every soft fishes like Gold fish breed, Angels, Rams etc. However put don't put them with other cichlid fishes as they might attack discus fishes and might kill the discus fishes. The discus like crystal clean water. If their is any kind of bad contains in the water it might make this fishes ill especially with fungus & might lead them to death, which is again a complete loss of around thousand of rupees as  it is one of the costliest fish.

One should maintain the diet of this fishes. Discus fishes need a minimum of 40% to 45% of protein in their diet. Discus fry would benifit from a minimum of 55% protein in their diet. They can utilize both saturated and unsaturated fats as energy. Fat supplementation at 20% of the discus diet is tolerated as long as sufficient essential fatty acids, which is around 1% to 2%, are supplied. Simple carbohydrates such as sugars are probably utilized but the more complex starches are poorly digested. Because discus are a soft water fish(water low in minerals), a calcium or phosphorus ratio of 1:35 should be supplied in the discus fish diet. The best food that I can suggest is beaf heart(non veg) that helps a discus fish to grow faster & healthier.

Lastly just wanna say that you will love them as they will make the home more lively. Once you get attach with them you will fell what they are feeling.
