I have never had an enjoyable meal at Applebees. Every year my Aunt gets us a gift card for Applebees. It’s usually forgotten about until we’re short on cash and hungry, so we cross our fingers and hope for the best once a year. We used to go in. We though maybe our food was bad because the service was slow (not blaming the servers - I could see they were usually given 7-8 tables at once...). Finally we just did carry out and THAT is where I felt the biggest disappointment. The food looked like puke. The deserts looked like puddles of melted snot (they were obviously taken out right when we ordered and left out near the heaters until the rest of the order was finished). Nothing was edible. They forgot 2 of our items and gave us double of one of them. We didn’t get our money back, they just suggested we drive back up and switch out! What kind of place does that? Then to top it off - the containers are so wasteful it made me want to hurl. They use huge bulky plastic things and styrofoam. Disgustingly wasteful. Instead of a paperbag, they put a handful of chips into a large plastic carryout that was big enough for a rack of ribs. Instead of a small recyclable plastic cup. They put our desert shooters (or snot rockets - who know what those things were) in large styrofoam cups. All of our orders were separated with a plastic container for each side. It was shocking. If I get a gift card for them again I will take it in and give it to someone who is already eating there. They probably regret the purchase and wish they didn’t have to pay anyway, and I wouldn’t ever want to inspire anyone to go there just because they have a card for it.
