India’s greatest bowler ever Anil Kumble has announced his retirement from international cricket to end an 18-year-old long journey.Anil Kumble had entered Test Cricket as a bespectacled 20-year-old in 1990 against England at Old Trafford.

Anil Kumble has ended his career with 619 Test wickets besides 337 wickets in ODIs.  It was fitting enough to retire at the Feroz Shah Kotla for Kumble as this was the place where he had taken as many 55 wickets in just six tests prior to this match and that includes a magical all 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan in 1999.
One of the highlights of his career was a mean and destructive 6 for 12 against West Indies in the Hero Cup Final. Kumble since 1993 was a big match winner for India.

Nobody can deny the fact that Anil Kumble goes in the history books as the best bowler in Indian Cricket. He delivered the goods whenever his team needed a breakthrough or needed to stifle down the aggressive batsmen.He was unplayable in the sub continent during his prime and in the first half of his career had struggled to replicate the same kind of success in overseas conditions. But with time, Kumble added more of the subtle varieties in his bowling to even start taking wickets in countries like Australia, South Africa and England.

Anil Kumble was one of the rare bowlers who could perform on any surface and excel in different playing conditions. Anil Kumble, the team had a soldier who could win any battle. The leg-spinner was a bowler for all seasons. 

Whatever matches he got to play, Kumble put on an honest and a fully committed effort.The greatness of Anil is, If he wasn’t included in the side, he used to take things in his stride and was always there to share his immense cricketing knowledge to the younger players or capturing snaps of his team mates’ landmarks.

Not many achieve their dreams. Anil Kumble did! He played the game he loved so dearly with such distinction and dignity that his teammates will now dread the thought of taking the field without him. 
Anil Kumble gave the concept of winning in a team sport a new meaning. He won difficult contests almost single-handedly.   At a time when crass commercialisation has changed the character of the game, Kumble played the sport the way it should be. He struck a chord with both the purists as well as the traditionalists.

Anil Kumble....The signature of Indian cricket, carrying the burden of expectations of a billion people on his shoulders.The number of balls he has delivered is indeed mind-blowing ... 40850 in Tests and 14496 in ODIs. If he ended up with a shoulder injury, it was inevitable.   He always extends his warmth whenever his friends go through tough times. Likewise he is always respectful of the elders.And over the years, he hasn’t changed one bit. Seldom have personalities occupied our personal mind space like that.

Anil Kumble I personelly met this legend many times.The greatness of this man was his simplicity.He use to practice in palace grounds, or chinnaswamy stadium, He allways belived in Practice makes perfect.

Captain Anil Kumble’s retirement, one of the greatest spinners to have played the game,  Indian Cricket will have  a tough task ahead to get some one ready to fill the big boots.Throughout his career, Anil Kumble remained an epitome of discipline and determination.
