the same streak, if he stays on for another 2 to 3 years he might be
able to groom another good player to take over, apart from Dhoni who is
one day specialist. If Dhoni continues too long in Test cricket he will
be burnt out faster.The Jumbo seems to have got a fresh lease of Life with Media
bashing. The bone weary spinner seems to be weaving his magic on behalf
>of all the ICONS. The out burst of Ganguly is attributed to
mis-interpretation by the Media, without recorded tape for obvious
reasons. I am surprised why Ganguly did not press defamation charges on
the newspaper to whom his comments was attributed. Kumble seems to have told the media that he will be retiring on
his own terms. All the uncharitable comments by media on his fitness,
non-performance etc have made media bay for him. Kumble has always been
a fighter throughout his career making innumerable comebacks after
being dropped for out of form, injury and better alternative in the
form of Bhajji. One more fact many people may not be aware is that he is gutsy in
private life too marrying his divorced sweet heart. He is fighting for
retaining possession of a kid with his wife’s ex husband. Being a
legend in his own way he preferred to give a fresh lease of life, which
is a rare character. How many of us will risk such a legal hassle for
sake of love ? I am sure there is a tacit
understanding with regard to Kumble’s retirement agreed upon by the
board. Since the alternative captain in Dhoni himself seems to be
struggling in form for batting. It is better for Dhoni not to take on
the burden of captaincy in Test. It is bound to be more stressful and
have a negative spin off in One dayers and 20/20. In the interest of cricket in
India
,
due to lack of alternative leader it is better to prolong the career of
Kumble on off and on basis. We can have him as non-playing captain too
when he is not fit. Kumble is very media savvy, he is able to take on
media with aplomb & perfection, which has not been witnessed in the
past. It would be ideal to mould someone with a young mature brain into
the team as future captain. I would even take a wild guess and suggest
a character like Rohit Sharma as one such candidate. In
this context, having a strong leader like Kumble would be in the
interest of Indian team. It is going through a patch of extending
farewell to ICONS. Just imagine
India
team
one day without Kumble, Ganguly, Laxman, Dravid, & Sachin, the
famous five. Another set is also on the verge of exit in a year or two
like Bhajji, Yuvraj, Pathan, Zaheer, & Sehwag. The selectors will
be now loaded with plenty of options to groom and induct fresh blood. A
clear cut goal to identify a separate test team and One dayer should be
mandated.Kumble, Ganguly & Sachin can act as mentors for future
spotting of talent from their regions. They will be right individuals
for talent hunting for Indian test team. Most of the present day
youngsters might get mixed up with priorities. If the classic Test
match has to survive it has to be only through propagation of test
cricket, with elongated duration and compressed days. May be we can
have one more extended session of 3 hours under lights and compressing
the 5 day match into 4 days. The need for results in TEST match should
be the ultimately goal. We need the ICONS for future of Indian cricket.
