Anil kapoor is definetly a underrated actor of all times, there were talks back in the 80’s that anil kapoor is a better actor then amitabh bachnan, in my opinion he is, amitabh bachnan can do the
angry youngman role as good as it gets, but he;s not an allrounder like anil kapoor who is perfect at his comedy timing, action, even an art like film eshwar. He has never been apperciated for his work, he’s been here for so long, he one of my favorite actors of all times, he would be in the third place from 1 to 5.
His Father surinder kapoor is also a film producer who has produced a couple of films, one of his older brother boney kapoor is also a movie director and a producer, younger brother sanjay kapoor is also a actor who still hasn’t made a place in bollywood. Anil is married to sunita kapoor and has two daughters, his oldest duaghter soonam kapoor will make her debut along with rishi kapoor;’s son ranbir kapoor in the next sanjay leela bhansali film. Actor sons have always had bigs debuts.
Anil kapoor started his career in a side roles in a films called hamare tumhare, rachna, ek bar kaho and shakti, then he probably had gotten experience about acting. Anil kapoor’s father produced a movie called woh 7 din directed by bapu and music by laxmikant pyarelal, the movie was anil kapoor’s first in which he played a role of prem partap pataile waale, can be considered one of his finest performances, the comedy in the film comes from anil kapoor, nasseruddin shah is fantastic also, the film hum dil de chuke sanam’s story is same as this one. This movie belongs to anil kapoor especially the ending.
Next two movies were called laila which was a total flop and love marriage with meenakshi sheeshadri was a very good movie, it had comedy in the whole film which was watchable. The next big movie for anil kapoor was Maashal directed by yash chopra, starring dilip kumar, anil kapoor and amrish puri, dilip kumar’s brilliant performance couldnot overshadow anil kapoor’s performance as the mumbai tapori raja, anil gets his first supporting actor award for this film, i thought amrish puri deserved one award for villain as well. There is one particular scene in the film i liked was when anil kapoor steals a present for dilip kumar and dilip kumar calls him a gandi nali ka kida, anil kapoor explains about how his mom used to work at peoples houses just to support him, when he says woh bartan manjti gayie manjti gayie lekin mujhe kaabhi bhookhe peth nahin sone deti thi.
Next big hit was saheb, this is a family film, which can be watched anytime anil kapoor donates his kidney in the film just so his family won’t be separated, another brilliant performance by him and utpal dutt is brilliant as usual. Yudh was another hit film, so andar bahar did average business. Next hit was chameli ki shaadi, an all out comedy film, anil plays charandas in the film his performance is totally brilliant along with amrita singh;s good performance. Karma and meri jung directed by subhash gayie were another 2 superhit films, some people considers anil kapoor’s best performance in meri jung. In jaanbaaz anil kapoor plays a spoiled son of amrish puri and gives a good performance, the film was second hit film of firoz khan as well.
Then mahesh bhatt took him in his film thikana, which did average business at the box office, anil kapoor gives a brilliant performance especially in the drunken scene, like amitabh anil excels in drunken scenes. Mr. india was a megahit film the first film with a very different story line, in which anil becomes invisible, amrish puri as mugambo is outstanding, this film also did wonders for anil kapoor.
Then time came anil to get a best actor award and he does that in the film teezab, he plays munna a bad guy in the film and madhuri 1, 2, 3 number was very famous at that time. Vijay was another brilliant performance by anil directed by yash chopra. EEshwar was like an art movie which was a hit at the box office and anil was nominated for best actor as well, In parinda he plays jackie shroffs brother in the film, he gives a good performance. Joshilaay, rakhwala, kala bazar all flopped but anil kapoor’s acting was topnotch. He was the most succesfull star of the 80’s along with nasseruddin shah, even amitabh bachnan’s films in the 80’s flopped until the late 80’s.
In the 90’s he acted in amba, jeevan ek sanghursh, kishan kanhiya and aawargi, only kishan kanhaiya was a hit, while aawargi stood at average, but in my opion anil kapoor gives his best performance in the film AAWARGI directed by mahesh bhatt, the film has all good actor anupam kher, paresh rawal in one, anil kapoor blazes the screen with the rolde of a street thug named azaaad and overshadows each one of the starcast.
Then he starred in films like khel, jamai raja, benaam badshah, heer ranjha, and lamhe with yash chopra all flopped but some people also think that lamhe is his best performance, lamhe flopped due to the ending perhaps the audeince weren;t ready for this kind of a ending. Roop ki rani choron ka raja produced by anil kapoor and his brother boney kapoor so much money was invested in the film expensive set the film was suppose to be a james bond kind of a film, the film flopped very badly and lost a lot of money.
Then the next hit was laadla i consider his third best performance, the film was about fight between husband and a wife. Along the way came films like mr azaad an average film, trimurti a big flop directed by subhash ghai, raj kumar , loafer with david dhawan etc. Then again dhawan signed anil kapoor in his next film called deewana mastana, along with govinda the movie is just to funny both of my favorite in one film, i saw this in india in the theatres in 1997. The film was superhit a laughriot. IN virasat anil gets a critics award for best actor the film was directed by priyadarshan the film has a really good story. Jhooth bole kauwa kaate was another average film, the talks between amrish puri and anil kapoor are really worth watching, the film is very funny. I hated him in biwi number one, don’t want to talk about biwi number one. In the year 2000 thousand anil kapoor gets his first national award for best actor for the film pukar in which he gives a outstanding performance in.
In taal he gets a another supporting actor award, i actually didn’t like the film but anil kapoor’s acting was worth watching. A film that should have been a hit was nayak, too bad the film came in the same month when terrorist atacked the world trading center in america in 2001, that would have affected the business in america a little, but the film really has a very different story, along with brilliant performances from anil kapoor and amrish puri. I really liked his short performance in the film lajja, i thought that was an award worth performance for a supporting actor. In calcutta mail he gives a another outstanding performance, a guy who is in search of son. Then he came back to his thug role in Musafir film directed by sanjay gupta the film first time had sanjubaba and anil kapoor together and they both do a damn good job in the acting department. In 2005, anil has already had a superhit film no entry, he is being nominated for best actor in some award functions, chocolate was a total bs film, he gives one of his best performances in the film my wife’s murder, it;s a shame how good films do bad in bollywood.
