A truly wonderful movie in the recent times. This is one of those genre of movies which doesn’t have to show too much melodrama or violence or sobbing to actually touch the heart.

     The
basic intention of the movie is to tell all it’s viewers that “Love is God”. God maybe different for different people, but anyone with a kind heart and helping hand is nothing less than God. This message has been projected in an extremely wonderful manner, in such a way that anyone can “feel” the movie.

The story starts with a chance encounter between Sivam( Kamal Hassan) and Anbarasu( Madhavan) at the Bhuvaneshwar airport. Sivam happens to be a broken man( literally) who has lost a leg and a hand in an accident and his face is cruelly disfigured owing to the same accident. He is one who has had lots of experiences in life and knows what it is like to live. Inspite of all his problems he hasn’t lost his sense of humor and has immense confidence in himself. On the contrary, Anbarasu is a typical of “today’s youth”. He is an Ad Film maker who thinks that he knows everything but, turns out knowing nothing. He is fast in taking decisions( which are wrong) and expects everything to be spoon fed and if it doesn’t happen ends up getting enraged. Fate has it that the two of them travel to Chennai together by all means of transport due to the cancellation of trains and flights because of heavy torrential rains. Obviously Anbarasu doesn’t like the company of Sivam and takes no efforts to conceal it.

In the middle, we learn about the “flashback” of Sivam who is actually Nalla Sivam --- a performer with communist ideals. He and his troop perform on the streets to educate the workers about their rights. Apart from this, he is a man with enormous talents and is respected by everyone. It’s anyone’s guess that he falls in love with the factory owner’s daughter Bala( Kiran). They plan to elope to get married when in a bus accident Sivam gets brutally hurt and disfigured.

Though Anbarasu tries all he can to insult Sivam, he does not get angry and acts normally. Towards the end, we find that Anbarasu has really understood Sivam and his principles and starts respecting him and misses him at the end of their long journey where they encounter accidents, thieves and anything typical of an “Indian” background. In the end we find a strange turning point in the movie, which I have left for the viewers to find it out themselves.

On the whole, it is a genuinely fulfilling movie which does what it is supposed to do. Backed by a strong screenplay, it has managed to spread it’s message in an awesome manner. Kamal Hassan and Madhavan’s acting requires “thumbs up”. They were excellent and actually lived their roles. All the others, though in small characters create a wonderful impact. The background score needs to be applauded. Without the music this impact could not have been obtained

Anyone who understands Tamil, please watch it atleast once !!!!!!!!
