Vaazhve Thavam - Anbe Sivam
Life is meditation & Love is God, well thats a rather crude way to translate, I guess.

Let me start of with the Truth - I am not a great fan of Kamal.
Having said that, I would term myself an idiot if I were to bash the actor. He is a genius - be it comedy, action, thrills, emotional stuff, you name it & he would prove himself a master of that trade.
Now, about the movie. Kamal is very well known for the ’difference’ he portrays in his movies. This movie is another feather in the God’s hat. The plot, the script, the communism, the violence - all of the movie is so well packaged - it will be really hard to set out bashing it.
Having said that, Maddy’s role as a  pro-Westerner (& western thoughts - albeit his marriage apparently is not so western like a Live-in relationship) could have been slightly underplayed. Similarly, the character doesn’t need to show off (what with the Credit Card at a remote village in Orissa - I assume well-educated Urban people aren’t necessarily so foolish to assume that Credit Cards and ATMs have spread all over ’RURAL’ India) and act rather violently at times (like the sequence where he punches Kamal).

Certain aspects of the films that appealed the most to me are listed below,

Comedy:
This genre of comedy is amazingly refreshing. Unlike the slapstick stuff of Avvai Shanmugi/Michael Madana Kamarajan/Panchathanthram, etc - the comedy is very subtle and unique. I recollect the Station Master’s 222222 (Two to Two to Two Two i.e. 01:58 to 02:02 ) response to Maddy’s question about the train’s halt timing at that station.

Communism & Spirituality:
These 2 aspects are so beautifully interwoven in this movie. The art made in Naser’s new office space, the reference to the statement that the lady owning a tea shop near the bus-accident site (stating that Kamal is God) and Kamal’s usage of that to Maddy, the climax sequence where Naser’s henchman-relative lets off Kamal instead of slaying him and the way Kamal enacted that particular scene. Its really portrayed so well - its remained etched to my memory (considering the fact that I am a scatter-head and often forget taking my bike-keys ;-))

Plot:
Nothing too new about the plot. Girl loves boy, boy meets with an accident, girl thinks he is dead, girl’s dad sets her up with a new boy, the usual blah blah blah. Having said that, the treatment is definitely refreshingly new.

Script & Screenplay:
These are major strong areas of the movie. There are many characters that haven’t been dealt with in greater detail (like Madan - the cartoon artist, Uma Riyaz - the commi girl driving a bullet). Had these characters been provided with a further oppurtunity to perform, IMHO we would have some more good sequences on the movie.

Songs & Lyrics:
Yet another plus on the movie. The lyrics and the music are simply superb. Some of the picturizations are real good too.

Conclusion:
If you’ven’t yet sat through this movie - do so at your time. It will make you laugh, cry & think. Hats off to Kamal and the crew.

Finally, thanks for reading the revu. In case you’ve already seen the movie and feel I have messed it up or missed out certain facts, do keep me posted. TIA !!

MN
