One of the best movies in recent times..... Anand truly is a ’’Manchi coffe lanti cinema’’ (As tasty as coffee). I had heard so much about this small budget film by Sekhar
Kammula and badly wanted to see it and the movie sure, did not let me down. Anand is a whiff of fresh air in the monotonous world of romance-song-action-melodrama movies.
Anand is the story of an independent woman, Roopa who chose to live life on her own terms. She is ready to compromise on some aspects in her life but for her self-respect. She is initially introduced to us as a naughty child, with a lovely family. But, she loses all of them in a car accident. The person who causes the accident(Anand’s father) feels so guilty that he becomes mentally retarded. This is the only hot part of the coffee, err.. movie..
Rest of the movie is easy going and a delight to our senses. Anand happens to be a US returned eligible bachelor who falls in love with Roopa and the rest of the story deals with how he wins over her.
The hero of the film Raja has acted in a few movies earlier, but, this is his best so far.. He slips into his character so easily, you feel nobody else could have done it. Roopa’s role is played by Kamalini whom we saw in the ICICI ad (Selecting not-so-fresh apples). She too, gives a good performance.
Another performance, which stands out is that of Anitha, Roopa’s friend. She seems to have a lot of potential, and seems to have a good future in films.. The kids and the Dogs, too have done well for themselves. The music of the film is excellent and leaves behind a heard-before kind of feeling. Maybe because of the classical touch they have. And the lyrics too, are awesome.
But, the movie could have been better.. The last part of the movie dragged on for quite a long time. That could’ve been taken care of. All in all, the movie is something which could enjoyed with the entire family and is a complete value for money.
