Time and again commercials are churned out which create a impress you utmost like the latest Vodafone’s ones and then
few fall in the category ( for dumbheaded people like me ) which just bounce above head like
Accenture(explanations welcome);
And finally I come to the category of those which fuse your mind completely wondering over their existence(?)
One such mentionable
gem is the one of
Amul Macho Innerwear.
And the worst case being now my 3 year old insists on watching reruns of the same.
Mummy dekho monkey waala ad aaya!!!! Endurance was never so unexplainable for th
ose who have kids know. Any kind of reason and logic is defied and you just can’t switch channels. So be it how much embarrassment it may cause.Which just bought me to the question do we need such advertisements??
The Latest Version
It depicts a male chimpanzee getting hold of an Amul Macho innerwear which is drying in the sun and he wears it.Soon hes hoarded by female chimpanzees and monkeys around till the female model who was present in the earlier promo arrives. She throws a banana at him. And suddenly he climbes the tree loses footing and the innerwear and falls. Thus he loses the attention of females and in the end scene sitting with the female whos trying to console him.And yeah how can I forget the trademark jingle
“Yeh to bada toying hai”
The Earlier Version
It depicted a lady washing the innerwear at the
ghat oohing and aahing over it while the other females eye her surreptiously . Shes thoroughly enjoying the attention and gets amazed glances from other ladies when she puts it for drying!!!??? And of course the same jingle .
My Views
Do we need such advertisements?
Do they serve any purpose?
Do they affect any buyer decisions?
I guess not. Never have I seen a worse display of Absurdity and Vulgarity. Its just a suggestive commercial and for once am sure would not affecting buyer’s decision in any manner. The company is either trying to gain unnecessary attention or just did not choose the right creatives.Whatever the case might be I feel its absolute hypocrisy to allow such commercials for general viewing.
In a country where people raise object on public smoking of Shahrukh Khan considering that it is a bad effect or raise hoopla over unnecessary subjects, this is Acceptable? Why I just fail to understand? Even a contraceptive advertisement looks decent compared to this unimaginable horror.
And then coming to the jingle
“yeh to bada toying hai” ;In my worst nightmares I can never imagine anything as repulsive as this. And imagine the horror if your very receptive kid just picks up the lyrics as a nursery jingle(?).
The censor board banned few lyrics of Madhuri’s song in Aaja Nachle, are they sleeping over this one.
A very sad state of affairs or probably just negligence but whatever it might be I guess we need a ban on this one.

For Added knowledge
A News Clipping says :
Advertisement Executives at Amul Macho can heave a sigh of relief. The Advertising Standards Councils of India (ASCI) has turned down a complaint about the Amul Macho ‘Crafted for Fantasies’ TVC being ‘indecent’ and ‘obscene’. If the complaint had been upheld, the ad would have been in violation of the ASCI code.
After reviewing the complaint and evaluating options, ASCI’s Consumer Complaint Cell (CCC) has given the ad the go-ahead. A letter from ASCI to Amul Macho executives and the agency on the account, Saints & Warriors, says, “As per their (CCC’s) decision, the complaint has not been upheld. The CCC concluded that the advertisement was not so obscene as to give rise to grave or widespread offence.”

In The End
Sometimes either there is just negligence or ignorance or probably just Big money involved. In the end who’s getting affected? Probably nobody cares!!!
