A zany movie with a surprise ending. At first I thought, ’’Another mid-life crisis male fighting infidelity.’’ Then the plot thickens. Enters - homosexuality, adultery, and dysfunctional families, as the Burnhams portray an all-too perfect type family, at least when in public view. Kevin Spacey portrays his character role (Lester Burnham) superbly,as with Annette Bening’s role as (Carolyn Burnham). Two outstanding actors cast in a mind-boggling comedy drama, is surprisingly, a winner. Acting at its finest is when Lester (Spacey) becomes hopelessly infatuated with one of his daughter’s friends and day-dreams only of his version of the ’’American Beauty’’ bottled in youthfulness. The surprise ending, however, is the murder scene. Well, it has been said and written that, ’’The wages of sin is death.’’
