somehow managed tofinish the book. ANd wondered why did tarun Tejpal even took the effort to write it and why did I take the effort to read it. I also could not understand why did V S Naipaul feel that it was an great original novel from India. He must be nuts. The sex is dreary, unimanaginative, totally unerotic. The characters, including that of the narrator and of Fizz never get established as persons.
The historical references do not refer to anything and they do not establsih anything. The story of the ghost of Catherine ( I hope I have got the name right, it was so boring) is worse than a childrens' tale and totally infantile in terms of the premise and content. The references to the Mahatma and Corbett are unbelievable and laughable. My advice? To Mr Tejpal - Grow up. To readers - Don't even attempt to read this.
