I have travelled with AI 2 times to Mumbai from NY. Second time, was horrible. The planes second engine stopped after take off from Mumbai and then we were stranded in Delhi for 36 hours.
But
I have a different story to tell here, which is regarding their customer service I have experienced...
I had these reward points from Air India from my previous flights which i decided to redeem. When I called their NewYork office, they told me I can get ticket from Mumbai to Nagpur and it will be $6 for taxes and fees. I then called second day and now the lady told me $17 for the fees. Not accustomed to such inconsistencies in customer service here in the US since a while, I thought this is a matter of who and how do I trust, so I questioned back, and, dont ask me , the lady started cross questioning and treating me like I am a biggest beggar in the world, and then slammed the phone over me. I then called again, but she wont pick up now, so I finally got hold of her manager. He was OK and he made reservation for me for after 6 months.
I now called them last week to chage my dates, and they never picked up phone. I think the lady has my number. Finally after waiting for 1 hr 45 minutes on hold, she calls me and indicates she wants a confirmation from me for my 30 Nov flight. So I got my dates changed instead.
Now I am trying to call again to send me the tickets, they never pick up the phone. I got hold of Marketing department, the lady said I will transfer you to flying returns, and she hung up, 3 times.
So obviously they want to make sure I should not contact them by any means. I do not know what to do, as I should receive these tickets within 2 weeks before I depart from here in NY.
Any suggestions folks ?
By the way, my lesson learned : Be very very polite and humble , like you have done some crime, when you talk to Air India staff. I know this is terribly difficult for us here in the US as we dont have habit, but... May be some day private airlines will beat this one to death.
