Ravi Sharma/r_kantsharma asked me to write about India and this is as close to India that I have been..
I love to eat at the Taj Mahal Restaurant but it is closing this week. Abdul, (hes
80), and Gulshan, (she is 74), Adatia are retiring after being in business for 25 years.
The building looks like it is in India and they serve superb Indian food but this restaurant is in Victoria where I live. They came from Mumbai to Victoria with very little money. The worked very hard to make their business a success.
When you came into the restaurant Gulshan always greeted you with a smile. Abdul kept coming up to your table to see if you were enjoying your meal.
There are 3 other restaurants that serve Indian Food, (the Da Tandoor Restaurant, the India Curry House and Spice Jammer) but none compare to the Taj Mahal.
I was an award winning restaurant that served Chicken or lamb biryani, beef vindaloo, tandoori dishes and breads, vegetarian meals and seafood. They made their own banana chips.
They introduced bubble drinks to Victoria and that shows they were willing to take a risk on trying something new. The mint tea always came very hot. The pot was refilled as soon as you finished it.
There restaurant was always clean including the bathroom that had fresh flowers in them.
There was no smoking inside or on their property. They had a dress code and people wore jeans were not allowed inside.
So why am I writing about a restaurant youll never visit or people youll never know?
Because this is an example of how to run a good business. Any type of business needs to do the things that they did.
They cared about their customers & set a good example. I will miss them.
Thanks for reading my review.
