.Vodka is considered as a Russian drink by most people.But actually the origin is a disputed matter .The polish strongly claim that they discovered it.Nevertheless Vodka was always part of the Russian life.It always find a mention in all the Russian classics of Mikhail Sholokhov and other writers.There is even a national museum of VODKA in Moscow!

This may be because of the extensive distillation and filtration process involved in its production.Vodka can be distilled with a wide range of alcohol content.This may vary from 15 to 70 %.But the vodka we normally buy has about 40 % alcohol content.

Vodka is mostly produced from grains and potatoes.Although it used to be drunk 'neat' in the countries of its origin,rest of the world prefers to mix it with a wide range of fruit juices .Vodka is the most preferred drink for making cocktails like bloodymary,bloodyceasor,screwdriver,whiterussian etc.

BLOODYMARYis a cocktail containing vodka ,tomato juice and usually some other flavouring like black pepper or lemon juice etc. I was always eager to know how this most popular drink got its name.Bloodymary refers to the queen of England who ruled during the 15'th century.But perhaps there is no connection between the queen and the drink.

If you know about bloodymary you should also know about VIRGIN MARY.Well if you make this drink without the vodka(?) it is called virgin mary .

SCREWDRIVER is a cocktail of vodka and orangejuice. I have no idea how this strange name was given to this very popular drink.

ABSOLUTELY SCREWD'.This is made of vodka,orangejuice,ginger ale and one shot of triple sec.A lot of woman like this cocktail!

One more bizzaire name is ANALFURY!This contains vodka,tomatojuice,a shot of peppermint and aftershock,a table spoon of tabasco and crushed seeds of greenchilly.Please try it and let me know whether the name justifies the aftereffect!
