I moved to Pune 6 Yrs back and E Square was theater to choice since it was the closest to my place. It was kinda Okay for first couple of years and I thought they deserved a bit steep ticket prices for the ambiance they provided.
But things have gone worse in past 6 years – If its just ticket prices, then people can bear it – but now they are trying to put a h0le in your wallet for everything. Its certainly not VFM. Bellow are some examples -
Internet booking charges are 10 rs extra per ticket(is that really how much it takes to manage your internet booking systems?) In fact people booking over internet should be given discount as they are eliminating a need of an employee - But E Square there for looting you …
Parking charges –(last time I checked they were charging 20 for 4 wheeler and 10 Rs for a two wheeler – But I guess they have increased those now. I think there is some ruling by Supreme court against parking fees for customers). I can still understand that you need to maintain the parking and so charging some nominal fees can be fair – But by very least estimates E Square earns at the minimum Rs 1 Lac per day only though parking fees alone – Are such high parking fees are justified?
Snacks and Drinks – First they sell snack and drinks at exorbitant prices. 40 Rs for 2 pieces of Samosa – which we get for 10 Rs outside – E Square profit(rather loot) is 300%. Soft Drinks are sold way above their MRP – Isn’t that violation of the Government laws? And you do not have option to bring your snacks or drinks from outside. Security guards will body check you at the gate(on top of metal detector) to remove any food/Drinks from your bags. So if you don’t want to starve – buy 40 Rs Samosas.
Even after paying such high prices – they can not take care of technical stuff. Recently watched Ice-Age 3 there(in 3D). I agreed to go there only because someone else was paying. Every 10 min their projection would loose 3D(images would appear as regular non 3D images) people would shout and then 3D would be restored only to be lost again in 5~ 10 min.
In any case I’ve decided to stop going to this place(when I’m paying out of my pocket). In the same amount I spend just for tickets and snacks for my family here, I can show them the same movie, go to a nice restaurant, eat a three course dinner and still will be left some money in my wallet.
