I pre-booked an Akash Tablet on 18th December 2011 and received it on 8th April 2014. It took 843 days to make/deliver such a useless piece of junk.
At first glance it was very appalling. The box looked like it's come from some junkyard. Messed up packaging.
The charger is a cheap China made stuff which keeps falling off from the sockets. The USB connectors are the cheapest roadside junk which you get for 10 bucks.
The device came along with a nasty scratch on the screen. The screen did not even have a protective film to prevent from scratches. Initially the battery would not charge with the provided DC charger. I tried charging with the USB cable and it did charge but the battery drains out real fast. Sound quality is pathetic. Even the best songs would sound like noise. The screen has a pathetic response. The built in apps are very bad.
It does not have WIFi and does not even come with a Ethernet to micro USB cable. Since I did not have a normal sim (used to the micro SIMs) I procured a SIM for the device and today when I inserted the SIM. Voila! No connectivity. It does not detect networks. I can't use this tablet for making calls or for internet since it does not recognise any SIM card. What am I supposed to do with it? Use it as a paperweight? :(
I tried using the SIM on another phone and it worked, so the SIM isn't bad. I feel like throwing this piece of cr*p in the trash but since I paid Rs 4, 300 for this I guess I would love to get a full refund for this junk. I bought this product because this was made for the general public by the Indian Government and I thought it is a good product which is being sold with a subsidy. I guess this product reflects the quality of our government.
Folks, please DO NOT buy this junk. Don't take it even if you get for free!
