I Bought a APC backup UPS for my PC thinking that a multinational will give great quality and good service. The model Is APC - BACK-UPS-ES-500IN. This UPS failed withing a year and was promptly replaced
by another one. I was pleased till this one too failed within 6 months and again was promptly replaced. This third one too failed, after warranty period of two years from initial purchase was over and I was told that I would need to pay for service. I complained on the apc website and again, they told me that as an exception they would replace this free of cost.
Here is the scam they are running, they are prompt in replacing the UPS in warranty period as they simply take you old one and fix it and pass it on to another unsuspecting user and give you one that someone else returned. this goes on till warranty period is over then guess what you have to pay a hefty price.
Being an electronic engineer and having worked on hardware I demanded to know what the mean time between failures was (MTBF) but even after repeated reminders by no less then their esupport manager the quality manager refused to even acknowledge my request, which only goes on to confirm my suspision that this product is junk, and sometimes recycled junk.
