My story is incredibly long, so I’ll just give the basics. I had been a customer of AOL’s for over 6 years, I signed up when I first got my computer. I was always pleased with the service,
and being new to the internet -- I found it very easy to understand and use... UNTIL... Almost two and a half years ago I started having trouble with billing.
 
I started to get charged for 2 accounts when I only had one. I called countless customer service reps, who all promised to stop the billing. After over 12 months of being charged for an account that was not even there -- and being promised time and time again that the billing would be stopped, they finally did get the second account to stop charging me.

Then I was promised a refund for the months I had paid double, at last count 43 reps had promised me this refund, but it never came through (and of course you can never talk to the same person twice.) I have been fighting with them about this refund for over a year now, and just when someone seems to actually care and I believe they are going to help me... they stop responding to emails and apparently drop off the face of the earth! So I must start all over with a new rep who listens to me for and hour before understanding my issue. This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.

AOL is very easy to use -- but very hard to cancel or get help with. I have heard of many people having this same type of problem... even the Federal Trade Commision found that AOL had violated the provisions of the Federal trade Commisions Act in their failure to cancel accounts when customers requested, duplicate billing and excessive billing. Please BEWARE!!
