Living alone in a city like Bangalore gives me the chance to frequent all good restaurants in town. And being a Bengali it was but natural for me to check out 6 Ballygunge Place. I have been to this restaurant a few times (to the tune of 4-5 times) and all I can say is if you are a avid lover of Bengali food and can put up with long queues, rude waiters and inhospitable treatment then you have come to the right place. The food being the only reason to draw me to the restaurant it becomes a tough decision to make as to whether I should go there or not. However after my last visit to the place I have taken my decision. I can live without the food served there, after all my mom cooks the same food and serves it with so much more love and in a hygienic manner. So what if I get the chance to go home just once a year. For everyone else who thinks they would still like to visit the place a few pointers to what you should be prepared for when you get there.
Long hours of wait before you get a table (after having made prior reservations of course)
Being rebuked by the waiters if you are so much as 5 minutes late (classic case of Murphy's laws being proved right..if u are on time you wait atleast 30 minutes if you are 5 minutes late you get the table on time..come to think of it Murphy never mentioned that waiters would scold me ;-) )
A BAD service on days when they have a buffet. (BAD=DIrty and unhygienic..If you work in a company which serves lunch in the canteen you would know what I am talking about..it's like landing up in the canteen at 2:00 o' clock to get your lunch when lunch hour starts at 12:00 ..the sight of the buffet table is enough to kill your appetite)
Over priced food, after all isn't it too much to pay 250 bucks for a plate of alu "something"..whatever that was I am unable to recollect the name..but it was just potato...and yes it serves just 1 person
Water is free so it does not come to your table so easily...you have to wave your hands and almost dance on the table to get the attention of the waiter before you get your glass of water...it's advisable to carry your own bottle from home..lest someone chokes on the table and needs water IMMEDIATELY..
And the water should be carried if you are unlucky and it is one of those days when they are serving a buffet..coz the buffet comes with an extra bit of spices..spelled.."mirchi"..probably a brillant brainwave by the cook to dissuade the customers from overeating....if you are dieting then this is in your favour.
And lastly they have a very dysfunctional swiping machine. So after a grand (EXPENSIVE) meal when you take out your credit/debit card to pay the cheque you might just be told that they need cash coz the macine is NOT working.
My intention was not to drive away potential customers from the restaurant by writing this review. It was a sincere attempt to make new people aware of the possible outcomes on visiting the restaurant and mentally praepare them for the same. After all a treatment like this might cause severe health problems both physical and mental.
My sincere wishes to all that you do not have any misadventures. And do not forget to thank your lucky stars if you manage to get a decent meal without any bad experiences.
