I had seen the trailer for this movie and was intrigued by its quick glimpses of something lurking under the bed ready to jump out and gobble you up.
From the get go John Cusack had me mesmerised
with his excellent portrayal of Mike Enslin-the paranormal author who in the process of writing another book is sent a postcard with the immortal words DO NOT ENTER 1408. Intrigued by this offer persuades his publisher(Tony Shaloub-quick 5 mintues) to book him at the Dolphin Hotel and not to take no for a answer.
John Cusack arrives at the Dolphin Hotel to be greeted by its current manager(played by Jackson) who then tells him he cannot stay in Room 1408 as every guest who had stayed there never left and either committed suicide or died a natural death. Undetered by this Cusacks character ends up staying in 1408 with the words Jackson uttered No one lasts more than a hour.
With Cusack tucked up in 1408 the nightmare begins, with every imaginable terror thrown in for good measure. I wont say anything more, you have to see for yourself; one more thing there was quite a few moments that made me jump.
The premise of a author haunted by personal tragedy and his pursuit to found out if there is life after death and then facing the actual truth which tries to kill him is a good one and Stephen Kings short story translates to the silver screen. This movie has its terrifying moments, my advice is go and see it but take a cushion to hide behind.
It kept me glued with unexpected things happening to scare the pants off me.
