Marilyn Manson is back with his 5th studio album, launching the Golden Age of Grotesque, after the bittersweet impact of Holy Wood.

The songs on these album are quite different from Manson’s
previous rants and raves against religion, but this is evident due to his thematic change. Marilyn Manson (originally Brian Warner), has now concentrated more on the environment during the 1930s, and the rule of Hitler’s Third Reich.

One would also find more meaning coming into his music (something Manson showed during many songs on Holy Wood), and a more of a deeper meaning. Musically, the tracks are more or less the same. If anything, they have became a little softer, however there are some tracks that have retained the great rock riffs that Manson is famous for.

The album itself features 15 tracks (or 16 if Tainted Love is included - I’m not sure about this). I have heard a majority of the songs ;), and am going to buy the album as soon as possible (I think it’s available with a special DVD).

01.Intro - What Can I say about intros?

02.This Is The New S*** - This song has a great bridge and a great chorus, and great lyrics (unless you find them... offensive). Lyric-wise, Manson starts off with ’’Everything’s been said before... Nothing left to say anymore’’ This just shows Manson’s feelings of the music scene now...and how his shock rock image has deteriorated (I guess...I’ll stop trying ot analyze his music then)

03.mOBSCENE - This was the first single from the album and every single second of it rocked. The video is sort of strange, though, and all I’ll tell you is that it stars an elephant and Manson with silver tooth caps! The song itself is really good.

04.Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag - Strange title, you may think. The song isn’t that great, although it has a great beat to it.

05.Use Your Fist And Not Your Mouth - Not heard. Sorry :(

06.The Golden Age of Grotesque - Not heard. Sorry :(

07.(s)AINT - This is probably the second best song on the album after TITNS or mOBSCENE. It is great musically and lyrically.

08.Ka-Boom Ka-Boom - I don’t really like this song that much, it starts of well though.

09.S***garden - This song has a nice-ish chorus but that’s basically the only thing that holds it up. Unless you’re in an unnaturally good mood.

10.Spade - This isn’t one of the most popular songs on the album, but I like the sound of the chorus - it has a very deep feeling.

11.Para-Noir - Sort of a stupid song. I won’t talk about it!

12.The Bright Young Things - This is some vintage Manson and worth holding on to.

13.Better of Two Evils - Haven’t heard it! :(

14.Vodevil - Vodevil is sort of a pun, I guess. It’s pronounced Vaudeville (something related to the grotesque era of the 1930s). Its an okay song, has a good after-chorus.

15.Obsequy (The Death Of Art) - Its an outro, man, can’t talk about it!

16.Tainted Love (not sure) - Well, if you haven’t heard this song, it’s one great download (umm.. I mean hear). It’s a remake of an old song, and features on the soundtrack of Not Another Teen Movie.

Well that’s my review folks. This album, when heard all in one go, sounds great. Singular songs can’t be picked out but I particularly enjoyed mOBSCENE, This Is The New S*** and (s)AINT. Although maybe not one of his most exciting albums, it is still a great buy.

One last thing - if you want to LISTEN to all the songs for free, legally (and that’s only listen), check out Kerrang!’s special promotion:
