I have been married for over 10 years now, and in about a week and a half my husband and I and our son will be celebrating our birthday. My husband and I were both born on June 20th 1968 (I was born almost
3 hours before him, so guess I’m the older one). He was born in Spangler Hospital, and I was born in Clearfield Hospital the hospitals were about 1 ½ hours apart in distance. Then when I had my second son Adam he was also born on our birthday too. He was our birthday gift, and a great one to boot. So when it comes to that special day that everyone seems to have for him or her, we have to share our special day together.

So I tend to try my best to make sure that my husband has a great birthday, and I try to make it special for him as if it was just his day. So here are a few things that I have done in the past for my husband’s birthday gift. I will also give you a sneak peek into what he will be getting in a few weeks this year for his birthday.

One year I picked my husband up from work, (he worked night shift then) and I took a blindfold and covered his eyes. I then began to drive around town, making sure that I took back roads and turns after turn. I didn’t want him to realize what direction we were going, that would only help his guess about were we were at. Once we arrived at Motel 8 I pulled up front of the building and then I took him from the car and walked him into the lobby, and into our bedroom that I got for the night.

Once inside I took off his blindfold and he was shocked. I had everything set up and ready for him earlier that day. The room also had a hot tub. I had red rose petals all over the hot tub’s counters, and I had petals on our pillows. I took some candles and had them light and a bottle of wine inside the cold ice bucket. I brought along a CD player and also brought some romantic love songs. I then had Chinese food waiting for him at the table that was light with candles. I will stop there and not tell you what all happened that night, but I’m sure you can use your imagination. My husband just loved his birthday gift. I knew from then on it was going to be harder to out do that birthday, but I tried.

Another great idea to do for your husband if he likes sports (which mine loves NFL football) is to make his day special by doing things that are related to the types of sports he likes. I decided one birthday to get tickets to his favorite baseball team in our area. We went together to the game and had fun yelling at the refs because of all the bad calls they made, then I took him to the batting cage he loved this. He kept pretending he was a pro baseball player and was hitting some awesome home runs while he batted. After that I took him to the park and we had a nice picnic on a blanket and watched the kids play, and the dogs and their owners play catch together. This was very relaxing, and then we went out to the ice-cream store and had a banana split together. Then we went home and spent the night inside together alone, (kids were at my parents house for the night).

Those were his two favorite birthday gifts so far. Some years we were not able to do such outrageous things (due to not enough money), so I had to come up with some sweet ideas that would still let him know that he was special and loved. So with that in mind I did what most people do when they don’t have much money. I made him a birthday card instead of buying one. I used my daughter’s construction paper (different colors) and put some pretty pictures of him and I on them and then wrote a very sweet poem about how special he is to me. Then I made him a nice steak and potato meal along with a big salad and a glass of wine. We ate by candelight and soft music. This was a cheap birthday gift, but it was one that had special meaning to it.

Now for this years birthday gift

Shhh, don’t let hubby know the secret. J This year I was able to rent a Ford Mustang the kind were the hood goes down and you can feel the breeze of the air rushing across your face and hair. For just one day it didn’t cost too much to rent this car, so I got a good deal there, and this car is just what he always wanted but couldn’t afford. I will drive him down to Reading PA that is about a 4 hour drive, so that will give him lots of fun acting cool in this car. Once in Reading we will go to a comedy club that we both enjoyed once before. After the Club we will go to Red Lobsters for a late dinner together and then spend the night at the Holladay INN. I hope he likes this gift and I am glad that this year we can afford to do something special like this again.

Other Gifts That I have got for him

Sometimes we can’t do those big fun things, so instead here are a few other small things that I have gotten him in the past.

1)     Binoculars: he loves to use those when he is out deer hunting
2)     Fishing spinners: He loves to fish, so needs some spinners to catch the fish
3)     Hammock: To lay around outside under the shade to cool off from doing all his work
4)     Cloths: He loves to get new cloths and sneakers.
5)     Camping equipment: We camp a lot, so I try to get him things he will like to take with him when he camps
