Music has always been different , different people showcasing their skills in a bid to display their talent. Music making has always been original and always will be. When music actually became commercialized
and there were many players in the music scene there began the subtle lifting of already composed tunes, these were called as cover versions. Many famous artistes entered the music world with a mix of their own songs and some covers, including the incredibly famous Beatles.
Apart from covers there is another brand of music that is based on the original song rendered by some other artiste, this is called Remix , wherein Cover versions dont require much of a musical effort in terms of innovation from the group or individual, Remixes surely do. Remixes generally remodel the song into the latest rhythm , adding some innovative melody along with it.
Here we review the album Touch of Romance by Faridoon Shahryar or our fellow MS ian FARID released by Vale Records priced at Rs 55.00. There a total of 11 tracks in the album.
OH LA LA
A remix album must always contain the right blend of songs, selection of songs is of utmost importance, Here I must say this album has some different tracks, the ones not generally heard in remixes, plus a couple of famous ones to give that accepting affect. Farid has used some English words during the track and has indicated the same in the inlay card.
Farid has an impressive voice, and he is ably supported by some extremely talented female singers , who have great voices and do justice to their singing. The good tracks in the album are Jab koi baat bigad jaaye, Dil kya kare, Tumse Badhkar Duniya mein , Tadap Tadap ke , Ankhiyon ke Jharokhon se. The other songs are quite ok.
Coming to the most important part , the music … let me put it this way this guy has some talent. He has attempted to do the most difficult part , that is trying to etch a place in peoples hearts with songs which have already been heard by them in a different mode earlier. He has very nicely avoided the extra percussion which would have given it the Jhankar effect.
OH MY MY
Farid in his attempt to create a different album tends to go off track at times, at this outset I want to mention a point , if me or Farid render a song in a different way people generally look at us in disdain saying Dude what are you singing . If the same is done by a famous singer, people would exclaim Wow man look at that subtle changes in the voice. What I want to say is that being the first album one must have stuck to the basics, after the recognition the innovations can start.
As already mentioned by Madlayla there is a lot of Reverb in all the songs , in a lighter vein I would like to mention at times it feels the recording was done at an open air studio at Echo point in Mahabaleshwar !!!. No Offense but then as the wise say Too much of anything is bad the reverb must not have been used in almost all the songs.
Farid also has to work on his rendering the hindi portion , I felt the English portions were sung brilliantly.
The Inlay Card is very simple and could have been a litlle more conspicuous looking. I felt like doing a Ctrl F to find Farid name and yes… I did find it nested on the bottom right of the card. Cmon dude make yourself felt.
HELL WHY
Why should you buy this album , well it does get a freshness into the remix songs and is a great album to hear while driving or a nice late evening with your girl. So guys go to the store & check this album out .
