The Andaman and Nicobar Islands consist of nearly 572 islands of which interestingly only 36 islands are inhabited.
Situated about 1255 kms from Kolkata and 1190 kms from Chennai,it can be reached
by air by any of the five weekly flights between Kolkata and Port Blair or the four flights between Chennai and Vishakhapattnam which connect the islands to the mainland. Port blair can also be reached by any ships plying from Kolkata or Chennai. These ships are owned by the Shipping Corporation of India and are a great means of taking a break from the routine life.
Port Blair being the Capital is a decent tourist outing. The center of the town is the Aberdeen Bazar which buzzes with activity and is an excellent place for shopping.
The most significant attraction is the Cellular jail. Memories of the unhumanly treatment meted out to our freedom fighters invariably brings out the patriotism in you. We tend to realize that freedom is not to be taken for granted.
Other attractions are the museums :
1.The Anthropological Museum,
2.The Marine Museum,and
3.The Fisheries Museum

There are also day trips from Port Blair which offer various natural and historical excursions. One can either take a boat to Ross Island, the early administrative center of the British, or hike up Mount Harriet. Scuba diving is also an exciting option available in Wandoor, 30 km southwest of Port Blair.
Overall it is a great getaway and is ideal for honeymooners.
