Every one in a city like Mumbai know the value of time very well. There is not a single minute to be wasted here. So, when it comes to banking habit, if you are to do a transaction with a Nationalised
Bank like Bank Of India, I would advise you to please reserve at least half a day to complete the job. Yes. That is the experience I gained with Nationalised Banks especially with Bank Of India. It takes nearly half an hour to encash your cheque. It takes nearly 20 minutes to update your passbook. It takes nearly 30 t0 40 days to get your outstation cheque collected. Many times the outstation cheque tendered for collection goes to the local clearing not once but twice and then it is suddenly felt that there is some mistake as the cheque is getting bounced back and then finds its way to the right place. It takes more than an hour to get a draft by using your account and more time if it is through cash.
I just gave a general description of the problems I encountered with Bank Of India. I tried to find out the reasons too. The lack of adequate and trained staff, lack of technology, attitude of the staff and work strain are cited as reasons.
Now my question is these are Nationalised Banks. Our Govt. be it Central or state are talking high about technology upgradation. Why not apply this to these Nationalised Banks too. Why the New Private Commercial Banks like ICICI, IDBI, HDFC etc. are putting up an ATM a month and exploring new ways and means of serving the customers ? Why not the Nationalised Banks at least start thinking in these lines?
After all these banks have been established more than 50/60 years ago and have a larger clientele. Dont they think that they are realling on the loosing path by not providing better customer service.
Are we,the customers of Nationalised Banks to suffer endlessly or is it an indication to switch over loyalty ?
