This song is very optimistic. Unlike most of their songs (such as ’’To The Moon and Back’’, Truly, Madly Deeply’’, or ’’I Knew I Loved You’’ this is very
upbeat and humorous. At first there doesn’t seem to be much depth to the song but after listening to it and reading the lyrics:

’’Compassion in the jungle, compassion in your hands’’

The comparison to humans and animals is an interesting one that this song examines in the truths that both tell and the freedoms that they experience and have in their lives. The appeal that animals have little worries and emotions while humans are inundated with emotions and worries about life.

Musically and lyrically this song is somewhat of a departure for Savage Garden. This song is a lot lighter and fluffier than most of their material. Although there are still deep meanings with the song they are not as obvious as they are optimistic and light. The music on this song has heavier percussion than other songs that they have released (for that matter very different than any songs on their CD’s also).

The song also illustrates the truths that we have in our lives about a simpler life and shows that animals do have a simpler life than us humans.

The song and music are both whimsical and free. The first time you hear the song you might not appreciate all the subtleties that are within the song but after the second listen you will hear more in the song than you could have imagined. Although still not their best work and probably not the best song to hear as your first exposure to the band it is still a great expression of their work and their expression.

If you are a Savage Garden fan another reason to buy this as a single is for the B-Side which is a very interesting remix of Santa Monica. This is a much more upbeat version of the song on their debut CD. This is a must have in your collection for this song.
