Those of you who have read some of my other reviews know I love to fish. And let me tell you here in Florida it gets awful hot most days. I am fair skinned and blister real easily. And I learned the
hard way that although we fish in the shade a lot, you could still get sun burned!
It doesn’t matter if I get a tan one-year I have to start all over the next. Unlike my husband who can tan easily, I have to work at it so I don’t even bother any more. I am to old…Lol and don’t really care if I have a tan or not. I figure if I get a little sun while out fishing then cool, if not that is cool too! But I do not want to burn either. So I keep in the tackle box a variety of suntan lotions or oils by Hawaiian Tropic®.
”Hawaiian Tropic® has an exotic, natural flora, fruit and nut extracts, with a combination of three highly effective, sunscreens plus an exclusive time released Vitamin A, C and E complex, antioxidants that help reduce cell damaging free radicals. Protects from the sun’s burning UVA, UVB and damaging IR rays. Provides up to 10 times your skin’s natural protection.” We mostly use the 30 SPF plus (UVA, UVB, IR protection) all day waterproof with vitamins A, C, and E. However we do carry the 15 SPF lotion and the 4 SPF oil. I like to change around sometimes through out the day. I will go from lotion to oil and back to lotion and manage to get a little tanned along the way and not burned.
The bottle is white with a purple lid that has a pop up which allows the lotion to come out slowly instead of large amounts that can get all over the place. The writing is gold and brown. (This is for the 30SPF) All the bottles have a different colored lid for the different SPF’s available (example: 15 SPF has a blue lid, the 4 SPF oil comes in a brown bottle with brown lid and gold writing, the baby faces which is 50 SPF comes in a pink bottle with a dark purple lid and white/pink writing. My son uses this one. And the all new Super Waterproof with 30 SPF comes in a white tube with red and yellow writing and a blue lid and is 6.5 fl oz (192mL) in size.) However the size I get all the time is 10 fl oz (296mL). I also like to shake the bottle of lotion just a little bit to allow the air bubbles that may have accumulated to go away before I actually open the pop up lid. This allows for a less mess as well.
The lotion is white and smells oh so good. Like coconuts! I ask my hubby if I smell good when I use it and being the smart man that he is, he always answer’s “yes baby you do!” (Hence the title of this review.) Really though the smell is wonderful.
The lotion is not greasy and goes on really smoothly. You simply pour some into your palm and gently rub into your legs, arm’s, stomach, neck, shoulders and back. (Of course having the spouse rub into the back can make for a very interesting fishing trip!) This lotion goes on evenly and there are no clumps or lumps in it. I have purchased suntan lotions that have had lumps and little white chunks of lotion that will not rub in. But like I said I have not had a problem so far with this product.
It is hypoallergenic and PABA free. It has been dermatologist tested. And moisturizes your skin. The Skin Cancer Foundation does recommend Hawaiian Tropic® as a safe product. For us it has been effective in protecting us from sunburn and allows a slight tanning along the way.
You should apply generously to your skin. This will allow a better protection. However I refuse to ride around in our boat with white lotion glowing from me, so I rub the lotion into my skin really well and it still works.
Now you should only use this product externally. It there was to be an irritation you should stop usage. And of course if the irritation were to continue contact your doctor. Also avoid getting into your eyes, if you are going to use this product on your face be very careful applying around the eye area. Wash out your eyes with water if you were to get some in them. And always keep this product and other household products away from small children. This product is not recommend for children that are 6 months or younger. Use the Hawaiian Tropic® baby faces instead.

Sometimes you can get the Hawaiian Tropic® lotions with 25% more free. You should also shop around for the best prices. For instance Wal-Mart sells it for around $7.00 a bottle, while grocery stores and drug stores generally run about $2.00 to $3.00 more. Also the grocery stores and drug stores will offer in house coupons, so like I said check around.
As for me and my fishing trips, I am a happy camper knowing that I will not get burned by using a product that I have trusted for years! (Now if I could just figure out how to catch those darned fish as well as this product is I would be a happier camper…Lol.)
Taking care of your skin is very important, do so seriously. Dont take for granted that your skin is okay, because its not. Most of us have dry skin, burn easily, have rough skin, and some of us are fortunate to have perfect skin and dont need anything. Read all ingredients on each package before you buy to be sure you are not allergic to anything.
I hope that this has helped.
God Bless!
