This is one of my favourite book ever – once you start reading it you won’t be able to put it down until you have finished. This book by Virginia Andrews is about a family who loose their father
in a car accident. They move in with the grandmother who locks the children in the attic so that the grandfather won’t find them. The grandfather is ill and about to die and the children’s mother tells them as soon as she has inherited the big mansion she will let them out of the attic. Unfortunately this never happens and the kids start to get ill living in the attic, not having any sunlight and eventually one dies from poisoning by the grandmother. They decide that they need to break out of the attic and get away but it’s easier said than done. This was the first Virginia Andrews book that I read and afterwards I read the entire series of Flowers in the Attic.

The book is brilliantly written, everything is described perfectly and you can really imagine everything that’s happening. The story is interesting all the way through and something is always happening so that you don’t get bored! Definitely more of a woman’s story, a bit sentimental for men, and more for adults than kids. I would definitely recommend that you read this book but make sure that you’ve got enough time to finish it because once you’ve got into it you won’t want to do anything else.

If you haven’t got time you could always watch the film which is a bit dated now but still good, not as good as the book though!
