What is the incident that you are talking about ? Can you point it out anywhere ... any link, any actual news item, dates where it was reported etc. Also what is this recent Spanish study that you are talking about .... you have not pointed out which institute did this and where this study was publi...shed (we can then even begin to question this). As I understand it, hundreds of these study -'manufacturing' institutes exist in Europe .... just so that Coke and other multinationals can be blackmailed into paying money. I respect that it is your review but I would suggest that to give it a more authentic ring (we are all interested in knowing the truth), you should give the facts on which this is based . Good ideas on facts would be 1. Reputable sources (online/offline). 2. Links to similar incidents which indicate a pattern. Isolated incidents do not a conspiracy make. 3. Who are the protagonists involved .... For eg. does the affected person in this story have a name ??Read More

Thanks patenik2, for taking the time to read the review. True ... I cringed when I saw the Letterman show. Aishwarya totally did not know how to respond. When Letterman questioned her in a lighter vein, she became combative. When he joked, she stared at him non-plussed. I think the basic problem is that she has been mollycoddled by the kiss-ass journa...lists in bollywood who ask her questons like 'We know you are a great actress .... how great do you think you are ?' or in that general vein. All she has to gush out is how hard she works. All you have to do is pay some worthless junkie at TOI and express some few thousand rupees and he will make up stories linking her to someone or maybe write a few lines about how professional she is ... with a catchy headline. You have also rightly pointed out that Aishwarya is highly Westernized in her looks ... her appeal is only exotic and nobody will consider her for any serious roles. Still the Bollywood press machinery is going all-out to promote that she is considered for a role opposite Michael Douglas. After the 'Bond girl' fiasco, only time will tell whether these lying scum are telling the truth of just spreading rumours. Well-thought review !! Keep penning !Read More

Admit that your language was a bit of a put off, but then I have stronger words for Jeetendra's daughter who produces some of the worst television shows in the world. She is one undeserving b!@#h and so is Uday Chopra (no metaphor, the guy is a b!@#h). I have watched but one movie starring this d...isgrace of a moviemaker's progeny ('Mohobbatein') and have consistently stayed away from his movie ever since. I have made a promise that unless this guy completes a course on acting and flashes the certificate in front of everybody i will not watch any movies starring him. But sadly, Indian audiences consistently patronize him and his movies. Of course, storyboards are replete with people walking out 10 minutes into a movie but they will still have spent the 25 or 50 rupees on the ticket. In a country of 100 crores it is easy to find morons who will make this mistake and they are the ones that the kiss-ass Chopras target to keep their pockets full. Uday Chopra sucks arse ! Wake up people ..... Watch movies that make sense and patronize people that have talent !Read More

That was a great review. Obviously, Manjrekar has sold his soul to the devil. I shake my head in disbelief at the crap that this guy makes these days. Hard to imagine that this guy made a gritty drama like 'vastav'. But then, that is his only good movie, that I know of ..... and it may well have... been inspired by his real-life dalliances with the underworld. It has happened to Mahesh Bhatt, Irfan, Manoj bajpai and lots more. Bollywood sure has a way of dumbing down its creative geniuses .... Keep writing, buddy ! - KamathRead More

Thanks yawl for the kind words about the review. I am sure you will be disappointed when you actually meet me :)) I do agree with matwalaboy that there is a hint of condescension (just a hint, mind you) in the way good crossover cinemas are made. I am not even talking about crap like 'City Of Joy...' starring Patrick Swayze, now that is real condescension ( a white man has to come and save us ... yeah, get lost !). But when our own directors, intellectuals and producers of Bollywood have crossed over to the dark side (read, sleeping with the underworld), then it is left to directors like Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta et al to shoot taboo topics be it child abuse, lesbianism, homosexuality, slum life whatever. I am sure all will agree that to convey the emotions for these traumatic and unique issues requires superior directorial and cinematic skills. On the other hand wads of cash from the underworld, is all that is required to produce a typical Bollywood potboiler. Any moron can direct and act in these movies (and they usually do). Bhais will produce movies with Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan and we all know what kind of movies they star in. One cannot even imagine these clowns trying to convey an emotion more complicated than college style 'puppy-love'. To her credit, Mira Nair has emphasized the sunny nature of the characters in this movie and the movie ends on a positive note. Her 'Salaam Bombay' was far more gritty and did not even make a pretense of having a happy ending.Read More

Again , I beg to differ. Repeat, no version of of a movie 'The Blue Angel' exists before 1930 (except in book form). The official German version of the movie was released in 1930 with the express permission of the author of the book and was the 'Der Blau Engel'. For a complete Timeline of the movie,... please refer to the following Production notes at http://www.kino.com/press/blueangel/blueangel_pressbk.pdf In fact, that timeline will correct your first comment about where you said that the original movie did not carry a citation about the source. The two late 30s and 40s version of Pinjara that you talk about can also be dismissed as fakes, though something tells me that they will have twisted the original in some too. The year of coming out of the (original) movie, makes no difference and again, as I said, the 'original' movies were shot SIMULTANEOUSLY, by the same director but in different languages. There was no question of copying or 'inspiration'. It does not matter who copied the original theme after that or in what year. I certainly agree that the movie can be adapted for Indian conditions, but my main grouse was with 1. Unacknowledgement - Maybe we can excuse the unacknowledged copying by Sanjay leela Bhansali (Black), he is after all, a director of costume dramas. But Shantaram is in a different plane altogether, although in his later years he did seem partial to costume dramas ! 2. Original theme messed beyond recognition - We cannot let this slip. Depicting 'Sadhya' as a 'hooker with the heart of gold' made no sense. That way, the unchanging, ruthless character of Lola is not depicted honestly. Shree ram Lagoo's character does manage to change the heart of Chandrakala which betrays the original where the professor dies clutching his desk while Lola dances on merrily.Read More

I don't believe so . There is no original of 'The Blue Angel'. It IS the original. Like every decent movie made in the last 100 years, it is based on a book 'Professor Unrat' by Heinrich Mann. The German version of it was made SIMULTANEOUSLY as the English version was made in 1930 since the primary ...audience was german (all the actors in that movie are german). Since the director of both versions was the same, there is no question of copying. In which case, it does not have to acknowledge anything. It also does not excuse anyone from acknowledging the original nor does it give any license to mess with the original theme.Read More
