If humans were animals??

Posted on Apr 22, 2008 under General

I was driving as usual yesterday and at the traffic light i saw a truck full of buffaloes. They were packed like sardines in a can....except that the sardines are  dead while these were on their way to the abattoir.I tried taking a picture from my cell but by the time the light turned green and the humans behind me were honking as if I was deaf.

This morning, same traffic lights and again the same sight.20 buffaloes packed together headed towards the slaughter house to be fried or roasted or curried and served on the platter of the so called higher species-HUMANS! They will be relished, deboned and digested and forgotten!

Me and my crazy imagination.I was imagining what if it was humans transported like that and they know that they are going to be butchered!

Well, here goes....."Arre..how rude and ill mannered, people are nowdays!" says Ms.Hoity Toity."I need my space and look at her, she is staring so blatantly. Why cant she let me eat in peace!"

"Hey you, you are stepping on my toes, I just got a manicure from Shehnaz."what a brute says Ms.Twinkletoes.

Mr.Moneypants roars,"I will report this to the PMO, how can they not have an executive seat for me..will take out a campaign on this issue."
"I wish i could nod off for a few minutes, then it is eternal sleep," sighs old Ms.Wrinklebags," but this young man cant stop pushing me and leaning over to ogle at the young girl beside me!aaaaahhhhh.....yaww
wwwwwwn"[reminded me of Smi]hehehehe.

Mr.Smarty, the kool dude was worried about his spiked hair[read horns]  locked in the nest like hairdo the aunty beside him sported. He kept complaining but she couldnt help it coz she didnt have space to move!

These were humans that were on their way to be slaughtered and they still couldnt compromise on the last minurtes of their journey to hell!
Humans dont realise the comfort they seek when they travel. They create a fuss if someone as much as touches the seat allotted to them.

Is the PETA listening?? How can the speechless animals be tied together with their horns locked, necks bent and packed in a small space. To whom do they complain? Who is listening to them? Don''t they have any rights?
It is despicable actually, how animals are treated by humans. There are animals that are carnivores and those that are herbivores but there is man who is omnivores.....crows and pigs are omnivores too.

Am not propogating vegetarianism here but I would like to see humans showing some empathy to the poor, speechless animals and treat them with some respect. cruelty towards animals need to be curtailed and we should all raise our voice against it.
The picture that I have posted here is what I took this morning.....just look at the poor beasts, the untold stories in their painful eyes!

WHY WORRY

Posted on Apr 10, 2008 under General

In life there are 2 things to worry about

Whether you are well or whether you are ill

If you are well there is nothing to worry about

But if you are ill there are 2 things to worry about

Whether you will get well or whether you will die

If you are going to get well there is nothing to worry about

But if you are going to die there are 2 things to worry about

Whether you will go to heaven or hell

If you are going to heaven there is nothing to worry about

But if you are going to hell.......

You will be so busy shaking hands with old friends

That you won't have time to worry

So why worry!!!

PS......Meet you all in hell!!!!

A callous mom

Posted on Mar 31, 2008 under General

I have been following the Scarlett keeling rape and murder case since the past month. Not for its being making waves news but just for the fact that she was a 15year old young girl! She came to India with her mom and a group of other people. For a 15 year old girl, Scarlett was already into drugs and sex and this reflects on her parenting too to a great extent.Once they were in Goa the young girl did not want to move on to Karnataka like the rest of her group. She being a minor in an alien country, her mom must have know the dangers of a little girl being on her own.
Most tourists are made aware of the place they are about to visit before landing itself. The culture, dressing sense, safety precautions et al. So we can't say that Fiona Mackeon, her mom was unaware of all this. Yet she leaves her 15yr old daughter in Goa and moves on to travel in Karnataka.
Why did Fiona leave Scarlett alone?
Even if she threw a tantrum, how could she bow down to her wishes?
`I didnt leave her alone but in the care of Julio, a 25yr old  tour guide in Goa.'she justifies.
Who is Julio? How can she trust him?
What kind of mom does she project herself?
Wasn't Julio using scarlett? Didnt Fiona know about her daughter's addiction to drugs and sex?
Who was responsible for Scarlett's mental state?
Who is responsible for the murder and rape of Scarlett keeling??
Her mom or the drug dealer and Julio.
What right had Fiona to blame Indians for the murder without taking the onus of the blame on her shoulders??
I would like all of you to put in your comments as this has been disturbing me a lot mentally.I have an 18yr old daughter studying far away...it makes me shudder to think of being anything like Fiona Mackeon.
Can a mother be so selfish as to move on for her pleasure to tour, leaving her young daughter in the hands of a total stranger?
Scarlett's cartoons in her diary are heart rending! :(

Rainbow colours of my life

Posted on Mar 22, 2008 under General

Que sera sera...whatever wil be will be the futures not ours to see...que sera sera......

When I was just a little girl I read a story...That there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and many people chase it but it is elusive. For me life itself was a riot of colours....married at 19...wow! how colourful it was....bhangra, gidda for days, then my son brought about myriads of colours into my life just an year after. Motherhood is so complete and oh so wonderful and with a partner who dotes on you....masha allah...kyakehne.......I thought my life was complete...I didnt need anything else....I didnt want another child too but my sasuma was after my life...imagine no girl and no baraat coming to my door after having three sons.....no granddaughter?? Well point there.....then came my daughter.....the joy she brought was amazing.....my husband [all for sons] totally ignored him and doted on her...spoilt her rotten....I was treated like a queen by him but my princess took my place.....It was so bad, that if I wanted to go out on Sunday I had to beg my daughter to placate her dad:) She made him dance to her tunes....literally…..time pas
sed and we celebrated our 21st anniversary….you may say…so what?? Big deal, many couples do…..but ours was a unique marriage where we never fought even once in 21yrs…..I don’t remember him raising his voice neither did I !! Albeit I did most of the compromising and sacrificing as he was a businessman and I raised the kids myself. I never nagged, never demanded nor did he. My brother-in-law and sis-in-law had a grand party on their 25th anniversary. We both then decided we would rather go off to Switzerland by ourselves [anniversaries should be private, heheheJ]

Wasn’t my life full of colour? You must be thinking how idyllic.

Then came the holocaust. He just left me to spend time with HIM up there. All of a sudden, my life was colorless. Stark….my rainbow was gone.

I was thrown into a mire of slush and filth which was sucking me deep inside it. But my kids’ faces implored me to pull myself out. I huffed and puffed and came out with many bruises mentally but still sane. Gathered my wits and started working towards a new rainbow. My kids were my rainbow and the entire colour I needed. My son got placed in TCS and my daughter stood school second with 94.6% that year. Main to rang gayi……My rainbow was back and I could now see the pot of gold at the end of it in their faces.

Life is full of colour if you see it optimistically and positively……never say die spirit goes a long way towards your goal. From a comfortable homemaker to a company executive and a columnist with The Hindu, I have changed many colours and I enjoy them all. What if society says I can’t play holi.Is there any less colour in my life now? My son may soon go to the US and my daughter is gonna be a famous media person soon. Am painted in Technicolor, Eastman colour and digital colours!! Am a proud mom and am very colourful from the top of my hennaed hair to my silver painted toes!!

I have a selected few net friends too who are a part of my rainbow but I wont take names lest I forget any and my rainbow turns dull!

I played Holi with my MS friends online.Believe me it was the best Virtual experience.I enjoyed every moment as if I played in real.I would like to thank Swati...my Swan for it and for inspiring me to write this post while she plays with real colours and me with my rainbow!

Face in the crowd

Posted on Jan 31, 2008 under General

                     Face in the crowd

I follow a strict almost disciplined life! [I sleep at 2 and wake up at 7].Please don't tell anyone!]
Morning starts with a hurried brush and 3 glasses of warm water [flushes out all the toxins we put inside!] Hurried morning ablutions over, gulp down the breakfast my maid puts in front of me and rush to office for the day’s routine.

My day has started!!! Work, work, work……gossip over lunch….a power nap and pack up at 5.Once I reach home I change hurriedly into my funky track pants, tee and my silver sports shoes and hit the gym at 6. Once there, my car is parked by a valet, who opens the door for me and wishes me good evening….this is where I stop and think! These are the nameless and almost faceless people we meet in our daily lives and we tend to not even acknowledge their presence as if they just don’t exist. I spoke to the young boy and he was taken aback! His name was Rajesh, a student who was working part time to continue his college education with normal dreams like all of us-of seeing better days, better life, and better standards of living! His favorite actress he said was Bhumika as she looked like the girl next door and he is a good dancer too he chuckled. He said, `Ma’am, nobody even looks at us and why are you talking to me. It is as if we are not human or don’t have hearts. People just look through us!’

My eyes were moist as I raced up the stairs to the third floor [I really don’t take the lift!]

And I am greeted by the doorman, who pulls open the heavy glass door and wishes me good evening so very politely. I was moving away without even a glance at him but then I stopped in my tracks and turned around. I asked him his name and he diffidently replied…Venkatesh. I stood there and asked him about his family and he said that he was married to Sujata, a salesgirl in a mall and had a daughter named Swapna. He said that it was hard to manage on the salaries nowadays due to the increased standards of living and keeping up with the Joneses compounded with the inflation. On my way back the valet brought the car to me and wished me goodnight and I smiled back and wished him back and tipped him for his services. My heart just went out to him and all the rest of the people who live their lives in such anonymity.

The next afternoon I went out for lunch with my friends to celebrate a friend’s birthday. This was at the Taj.And again the same story was almost repeated, the Valets running around parking for the patrons and the main door manned by an almost 6 ½ foot Pathan. I stopped to talk to him and was enamored by his colorful uniform and turban. He threw a broad smile and with a swish of his hand, welcomed us in. My friends were taken aback to see me engaging him into a conversation. He had a very interesting life to narrate about. He was an ex-sportsperson [basketball] but due to a knee injury had to lay off from playing and his height came in handy to get him a job as a doorman as they usually take those with good height and personality. His name was Mansoor Khan with one wife:) and 6 children between the ages of 16 to 4!! He has been placed in different cities and each one had its own charm he says. But one thing in common was that 99% people don’t even give him a glance when he wishes them.

There must be hundreds of Venkateshs,’ Mansoors’ and Rajeshs’ we come across in our day to day lives! Let’s be humane and acknowledge their presence and at least and make them feel that they are human too!
