Maharashtra is a third largest state of India and Mumbai is capital of this state. This is a place that was ruled by Marathas and Peshwas, and their presence is still evident in many cultural and rituals that still are followed over many years. The official language of this state is Marathi, but the state spans many cultures that includes beliefs related to Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, etc. Maharashtra is a coastal state with Arabian Sea covering its western outline. It is surrounded by Indian states of Gujarat in Northwest, Madhya Pradesh to North, Chhattisgarh to the East, Telangana to the Southeast, Karnataka to the South, Goa to the Southwest and union territory to the West. Being bounded by these states, have made an efficient intermixed cultural values along the borders of Maharashtra, making this place a provincial place for many religions to grow in harmony. Maharashtra being known for land of saints, revolutionists and educationists, is the modern state that pushes the purogami culture, which means reformist or forward culture.Covering substantial portion of Deccan Plateau in western peninsular part of India, Maharashtra is rich in geographical enchantments, like Sahyadris that is home to many forts of Shivaji and currently an adventure destination. The lofty mountains in the middle and cradled by sea on the West, makes this place a reflection for all the diversity to nurture its way.
