MC is definitely not just another sci fi author. His books, some of which have strong sci fi elements, are also so much more - reading a MC sci fi after reading an Asimov probably will bring out the difference. So, what I felt after reading Prey was that it slotted him into the 'popular sci fi' set.... Again, the books I have liked best are those like Great Train Robbery, Eaters of the Dead, Disclosure, Rising Sun, Airframe, Travels - these do not have a sci fi element to them at all. So, to me, slotting MC into the restrictive pop sci fi category is a big disappointment!Read More

Maybe the toughest thing I've done - make a list of the top 5 books I've read!  Rather than attempt the impossible, I'll use my own interpretation of what constitutes a'book'! crazyplaywright - thanks for the good words. Actually, i did not feel like chewing her out as I was tired and wanted to just get it over with so I could get ready to face the day! cactus1970 - thanks :) I stayed there in early Feb - way before the war and sars and the hotel was quite overflowin...g with foreign visitors - hey, maybe that was the whole idea - to drive mew out so that they could have a foreigner who would pay in dollars instead of me !!! But seriously, customer friendliness is an attitude, and cannot be learnt. hey starbucks! I would have left, except that I had a load of luggage that had already gotten to the hotle and my schedule was too hectic for a change in hotels - I stuck it out as best as I could! Thanks for the good words! Cousin2, Thanks - I guess this is what community is all about! Read More

The disappointment of Prey (and to some extent, Timeline) notwithstanding, I have always been and will remain a Crichton fan! Thanks for the feedback!

Confirmed Michael Crichton fan that I am, I went out and bought Prey as soon as it hit the shelves. The next few days were a blur of a few minutes snatched here and there from an insanely hectic schedule. Finally, I managed to finish Prey. Strangely enough, I was left with a feeling of happy emp...Read more

Stayed at the Park Delhi for five days - it was perhaps the worst hotel stay I have ever had. Checking in itself was such a chore, and this despite the reservations we had made well in advance from their Chennai hotel. A wonderful book! Jerome's fantastic account of a journey taken down the Thames along with two of his friends, ''Three Men In A Boat'' is definitely one of the most humourous books in English. Where Jerome succeeds is in his witty narrative. This combines with his amazing descriptive power to pr...Read more

I first read the Hobbit when I was in college. It was that part of my life when time was not at a premium and I spent many a lazy afternoon in the Shire. I went on a most excellent adventure with Bilbo and the Dwarves. I stood in awe of Gandalf, and laughed easily with Beorn. I skulked behind Bi...Read more

A great book. Mulk Raj Anand's strength as a writer is brought out fully as he portrays the pathetic condition of Munoo. A must-read for aspiring writers and anyone who likes reading. Though the content is dark and depressing, it does provoke thought on the human condition. Reality, albeit a dat...Read more
