do you find fault.......

Posted on Nov 04, 2008 under General

On the lighter side..........

A team of Managers was given an assignment to measure the height of a flagpole. So the Managers go out to the flagpole with ladders and tape.
They're falling off the ladders, dropping the tape measures – the whole thing is just a mess.

An Engineer comes along and sees what they're trying to do, walks over, pulls the flagpole out of the ground, lays it flat, measures it from end to end, gives the measurement to one of the managers and walks away.

After the Engineer has gone, one manager turns to another and laughs.' See this idiot. We're looking for height and he gives the length!'

Moral: 'No matter what good you do, Managers can always find fault in you'.

Change is permanent

Posted on Nov 01, 2008 under General

am reading a book 'Blue Ocean Strategy' (review coming in few days).....more I read more start believing the eternal truth that change is the only thing which is permanent in this world.....and those who realised and grabbed this have leaped ahead in leaps n bounds.....others have vanished.........

When thinking of some of the bubbles bursting.....

# Cable TV....wonderful business about a decade back.......now not much left in it due to dth coming in n cut throat competition

# Private banking.....bursted recently in USA.....going to burst in here too

# Retail.......what a boom couple of years back.......bubble bursted very soon

# Low cost airlines.......people enjoyed for half a decade.......now everything is high cost...

So only change seems to be permanent....please do share your examples here

Make the Right Decision

Posted on Oct 29, 2008 under General

A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other unsused. Only one child played on the disused track, the rest on the operational track.

The train is coming, and you are just beside the track interchange. You can make the train change its course to the unsused track and save most of the kids. However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make................

..
.
.

Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. You might think the same way, I guess , because to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally. But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was. This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

The great critic Leo Velski Julian who told the story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens. If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe. If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one.

"What's right isn't always popular... and what's popular isn't always right."

Everybody makes mistakes; that's why they put erasers on pencils.

Lessons from Life

Posted on Oct 25, 2008 under General

I've learned that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you (this quote is dedicated to MSians)

I've learned that we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I've learned that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be

I've learned that you can keep going long after you can't.

I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I've learned that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.

I've learned that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I've learned that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

I've learned that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them, and less to do with how many years you have lived

I've learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I've learned that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I've learned that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time

I've learned that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I've learned that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do love each other.

I've learned that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

I've learned that two people can look at the same thing and see something totally different

I've learned that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

Think Before Complaining.......

Posted on Oct 19, 2008 under General

If you think your salary is low, how about her?
.............A 90 year old woman begging on the street for few pennies

If you think you don't have many friends...
..............What about a soldier sitting on the mountain without a sign of human being

When you feel like giving up, think of this man
............ Handicapped with a broken leg strugling still teaching his grandson to ride a bicycle

If you think you suffer in life, do you suffer as much as he does?
.......... A man pushing a cart carrying tons of load of material

If you complain about your transport system, how about them?
..........Mountaneous region wherein the only way of transport is to walk on hanging bridge

Enjoy life how it is and as it comes

Things are worse for others and is a lot better for us

There are many things in your life that will catch your eye
but only a few will catch your heart....pursue those...
